Most of them are very possesive and jealous people. A temper that won't quit and it doesn't take a very long fuse to ignite it. I think the women (most of us) have learned to control this temper ALOT better than the men. The majority are as my husband would say "hard headed" Once it's in the head it is hard to convince them otherwise. This I KNOW from personal experience. My direct line loves music. Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 10:05:01 EST From: BUFFUM2@aol.com Subject: Re: Indian Kersey Connection from Ark. Marv & List, this is the Kersey of the Chicksaw's that I have. I never followed up on it since the petition was denied. These are the Black Chicksaws, or the mixed blood indians. This is why I am so adament about proving the Indian Connection. Looking at the information that Troy sent, what I am reading ( someone correct me if I am wrong ), it looks as though Lenner Celia Cox Kersey was approved because her grandmother Wilson being full blooded Cherokee, her mother Margaret Reaves Cox, being one half Cherokee and she herself being one fourth. Any Kersey decendents of Lenner Celia and her grandchildren could claim the Cherokee Blood Line. You can only claim down to one sixteenth, or one eighth. The Eastern Band of Cherokee is where I am told that my side of the Kersey's are. I am beginning to wonder if, like in this case, if our Kersey's just married into the Indian Blood Lines . Milton Kersey's only connection is his wife Lenner Celia and his children. This is what I have been pondering for a long time now. Were there really any Full Blooded Indian Kersey's, like Stephen is suppose to be ? Thanks Troy, you did a great job and put a lot of time and effort into this. Doris

#20. Kerseys I've known - from Ke86tnt@aol.com
Top
Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 12:04:26 EST From: Ke86tnt@aol.com Subject: Kerseys I've known Janas, Your view of the Kerseys is somewhat typical of mine. My dads family was a 'split' family, due to the fact that his mother died at the birth of his younger sister. His dad then married a gal about the same young age as my dads older sister. So that gave the family a set of four (two boys - two girls), and a set of seven (all boys - one died), of which two different types of people emerged. The set of four was a mixed bag also. The girls grew up and led very stable lives while both the boys had problems with booze, women and all the associated woes. They were basically hard workers, however they possessed a quite low flash point. Both were married numerous times and were usually always at odds with other members of their family (other Kerseys). Music seemed to be a part of some of the family, others I don't know whether they were involved or not. My dad, at one point in the late forties, had a live radio show doing some sort of music - probably country and western. He also seemed to get together with others during the 60's for little 'spill a few beers jam sessions'. I also love music, however I have only very limited skill on a couple of instruments, so I occasionaly am in charge of the audio/video in various activities around, and for the church. Both my daus. have taken classes. Jennifer (who got married 1 1/2 weeks ago) has been playing the violin since the early 80's and still does for church and other things. Laura took up the piano and is fairly good at that. The set of seven I don't know as much about as the others. I do know that at least two of them did time - seems that one was for murder. Booze and women, along with the associated woes, seemed to be a problem with a couple also. I did become very familiar with one of them and he and a couple others led peaceful happy lives. As for me, and I am not bragging, I've done an about-face on many of the traits that were so prevelant in the limited number of Kerseys I knew. I volunteered for Vietnam, and served over there, as a means of getting away from my family situation. I then went back to college and finished the majority of classes for a BA. (In high school they passed me because they knew I was signed up for the military and Vietnam) I did receive my AA with Honors. I have also been married now to my first wife for almost 28 years, own a home and have my own business. Booze, which seemed to dominate the lives of those I knew, is very much controled. I have had to make very determined efforts to reverse the negative traits that I saw in me of my dad, including that short fuse and extrememly low flash point. My social style is one that floats into all four styles; driver, analytical, expressive and amiable, which I have learned to use to my advantgage. I also do, and enjoy, a small amount of public speaking. One other thing I very much enjoy is reading. I try to get in a couple or three books (non-fiction) a month, in addition to work, geneo/history and religious. Believe me, it has take a lot of effort to break what I perceived as a very negative mold .......... but I feel that it is oh so worth it. Well, think I've bent your ear enough for one shot. 'gotta say that if you've read this far you are one brave soul. If you are, I would very much enjoy hearing about all of you and who you really are. I know that behind every screen name there is a person with all the wants, hopes, desires and history as myself, or anyone else, that we would love to hear about. I sit back and think that every person is totally unique in this universe, that each one of us have talents, great or small, that no one else have, that no one else can fill. That, to me, makes every single persons live very worth while, and every single person is able to teach me something new, based upon their life and experiences in that life. What'd ya say?? Thanks, Tom Kersey

We don't have a picture of Benjamin Franklin Kersey in the uniform. My cousin, and Jana's aunt in Mobile, Al is suppose to have a picture of him in uniform. I've been trying to get a peek at the supposed picture for 20 years now. I tried to bribe her with genealogy. I sent the genealogy, but she never responded with a picture. However she distributed the genealogy through out the family as her hard work LOL ! I hope someone does have your Ben's picture. I'd love to see it. I have pictures of Kersey's hanging all over my computer room. I have a picture of my grandfather Ben in his Firemans Uniform. Could you have confused it with the confederate uniform ? Doris

My oldest daughter can play just about every musical instrument. It might take her a few minutes, but she figures it out. Doris

Kersey , is that the oldest grave in the cemetery ? I know this must be Pege's George M. Kersey. My concern is ; if it hasn't been recorded with the Historical Society of Arkansas, then some day, like our Ben's cemetery , there will be a subdivision built over them. Someone in your family ,and soon, should find out what the laws in Arkansas are , concerning cemeteries. Make people aware that there are historical markers in the cemetery. If it is privately owned by a farmer, then he just might be able to sell the land, and the new owners can destroy the cemetery. If it is owned by the county, they can do the same thing. They can declare it an abandoned cemetery. Maybe your family can purchase the cemetery, or the county might deed it over to your family. If you haven't already, get involved and find out what your rights are concerning this cemetery, and how you might go about preserving it. Just a word of caution. Our poor Ben , Samantha and family are resting under someones poarch, because we didn't get involved. Plus an unscrupulous relative selling us out. The countryside where the cemetery is ( in the pictures ) ,is beautiful, and a prime candidate for a subdivision or shopping center ! Doris

The state of GA did not require death certificates or birth certificates until then. However, there were a few counties that did require death certificates before then. Date: Sun, 28 Feb 1999 09:44:37 EST From: KJSTaylor@aol.com Subject: (Kersey List) Hi! Enjoy reading the Kersey stories. Wish I could add more, but my Kersey ancestor died in the early 1900s and I wasn't born until 1961. I am still hoping to discover the whereabout of the David Kersey who was born in TN and married about 1827. He is said to have been a logger and that he took logs to New Orleans and did not return--either died or perhaps started a new family. Does anyone have any census records that might back that up? Of course, he could have changed his name, in which case he'll never be found! Thanks! Kathy
