Elender Cassandra Kersey was my grandmother. She was b. April 8, 1879, Schroeder, Goliad County, TX; d. May 1969, Goliad, Texas She married Robert Fletcher Wilkinson in Goliad County, Dec. 21, 1910. Also, your Sarah Frances Jane Whitenton is really Sarah James Frances Whitenton(1841-1929). She was known as "Aunt Jimmie". If you need any other information, please let me know and I will try to fill in the gaps. Actually, the name is a variation of Whittington (as in Richard Whittington, Lord Mayor of London). Date: Tue, 2 Mar 1999 05:55:52 EST From: DIrvin9551@aol.com Subject: David Kersey born Franklin Co., Tenn Hi Marv, I just found your site, Just wonderful. My 3 great grandfather was David Kersey who married Jane E. Dale in Pickens Co., Ala. She applied for a pension after his death in 1881 in Scott Co., Ark. She was living in Newton Co., Mo. when she applied. David was in the Indian Wars in Fla. I scanned through some of your digest listings and didn't see any references to David Kersey. Do you possibly have any information on him. He is said to be the son of George M. Kersey and Lucy Brock, and a brother to Isaac Kersey. This is proven in Jane's application. She said he had a brother named Isaac who served with him in Robert's Tenn unit. I would like very much to subscribe to the digest. You can add my name to your list. I am very inpressed. Thank you, Diana Irvin

One in April and the other in September. Yes, I do know the pain of weather changes, and live on 800 mg's of Ibuprofen and sometimes steriods. I don't think that I can blame this one on the Kersey's though. Mine is due to OLD Knees HA HA. Th blood high blood pressure and the diabetes I do blame on them. My dad was double jointed..he could "throw" his hip out of place and you would see his leg was many inches shorter than the other...I don't know how he did that! could do it with his thumbs as well. There were blood pressure issues, and heart issues..my father was the first who had cancer...at least back 4 generations...I always felt it was the estragen pills he had to take after 2 heart bypasses...he died at the age of 60 in 1976. His two brothers are alive and doing very well...quite active..you wouldn't know both are in their 70's...one has diabetes(no medication controlled with diet) and the other had blood pressure problems for years...and then he started eating 2 cloves of fresh garlic a day...after all else failed to control it....and he is fine these past few years.

To the best of my knowledge Drucilla Mildred Angel is not James' sister, but then I'm not certain. I have information on all of George Robert Kersey's children and there is no connection that I see at this time. The Kersey line is on my fathers side of the family, however I just recently found a Kersey marriage record of Alfred Walter Kersey to Yada Earline Faye Fulcher , 21 Nov., 1931. Alfred is the son of Frank Lee Kersey and Hannah Belle Tindall; Frank is the son of George Robert Kersey and Drucilla Angel; george the son of David Kersey and Jane E. Dale. This marriage was in my Mothers line. Now I have Kerseys on both sides of my family. I will put all of my lines on line soon. Thank you. Diana

#28. Arthur Kersey - current events - from MarkTAC@aol.com

Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 22:31:58 EST From: MarkTAC@aol.com Subject: Arthur Kersey - current events This information was in the Bradenton Herald. My son is a paramedic in Manatee Co., so this hit close to home for me. Two killed in head-on wreck with fire engine BY CHRIS TISCH Herald Staff Writer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- MYAKKA CITY -- With their fire truck nose-dived in the ditch and their heads rattling from the collision, the two firefighters clambered out of the fire engine and headed toward the crumpled station wagon. Injured and disoriented, the fire truck driver jumped to the ground. He limped toward the smashed station wagon but collapsed in a ditch. The second firefighter struggled out and stumbled to the car. But he realized all their desire to help would do no good: The two people inside were dead. The pair in the station wagon, Peter and Elizabeth Conze, both 78, vacationing from Greenwich, Conn., were killed about 12:15 p.m. Thursday after their car veered suddenly in front of the fire truck on State Road 70. The fire truck was going about 50 mph with lights flickering and sirens blaring as it headed west to another crash on State Road 64 and Verna Bethany Road. The 20-ton truck, which was carrying 1,000 gallons of water, slammed into the eastbound car head-on, driving the hood five feet inward and pushing the car 160 feet backward. The Conzes were killed instantly. ``The engine was in the back seat,'' said a shaken Rod Green, who heard the crash from his wood-carving business on S.R. 70 and ran to check on the Conzes. The two firefighters, meanwhile, were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Both the fire truck driver, Jerry Groover, and passenger, Capt. Arthur Kersey, were discharged later Thursday. Both were wearing seatbelts and adhered to all traffic laws, according to Florida Highway Patrol investigators. They had just left the Myakka City fire station when the crash occurred. Traffic on S.R. 70 was re-routed until Thursday night as troopers investigated. Though the scene at the crash site was grim Thursday afternoon, emergency workers praised Groover and Kersey for their instinctive efforts to help the couple in spite of their own injuries. ``When we step in that truck, we get in a frame of mind,'' said Myakka City Fire Department Lt. Lamar Parrish. ``Even though they're hurt or just shaken, they're putting themselves on the line for more injuries to check on the people.'' ``Probably his instinct told him to get over there, and he tried,'' added Green about Groover's efforts. ``He'd fall down and get back up. He was trying his best to get over there.'' The firefighters were heading to State Road 64 and Verna Bethany Road, where a semi rolled. Braden River firefighters ended up filling in for the Myakka City crew at that crash. The semi driver, Rhondle Daye, 38, of Laurel Springs, N.C., was flown by Bayflite helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. He was listed in fair condition Thursday night. Groover, 30, has been a firefighter at the Myakka City department for almost three years, while Kersey, 33, has been there more than 10 years. Both started as volunteers, but were hired as the department's first paid, professional firefighters last year. Both live in Myakka City. Firefighters said their hearts thumped in their chests when they heard some of their comrades were involved in the crash. Crashes are the second-leading cause of firefighter deaths nationwide, behind heart attacks. ``The first concern is for the safety of your employees and the public,'' Myakka City Fire Chief Bob Dodge said. ``You're just hoping everybody is OK.'' Troopers were considering a number of theories as to what caused Elizabeth Conze, the driver, to turn so suddenly in front of the fire truck. Two theories were that she was startled by the sirens and made a sudden errant turn, or that she was reaching for something in the car. ``We'll probably never know,'' said highway patrol Cpl. Wayne Willmon. Using witness statements and crash markings on the road, troopers determined Conze was well into the westbound lane when she hit the fire engine. Groover tried steering left to avoid the car, but it was too late. ``It was just like a bomb going off,'' said Richard Malone, who was sanding a pelican wood-carving at Green's business when he saw the crash. ``It happened at the last second. I don't know if they (the Conzes) were distracted or what. The fire truck had no chance to turn away.'' Several people on the scene Thursday mistook the Conze's vehicle for a van because the impact pushed the roof so high. Firefighters had to cut off the roof and used cutting tools to disassemble the car to get out the bodies. ``It was awful,'' said Green, who was carving a cowboy out of wood when he heard the crash. ``It's the worst accident I've ever seen.'' The impact left a 160-foot path of debris, some of it personal belongings from the luggage-packed car that indicated a vacationing elderly couple was involved: hearing-aid and camera batteries, medications, eye drops and a set of thick eye glasses in a green case decorated with a white unicorn. As the bodies were extricated, troopers searched through luggage and tote bags in search of names of family members. They pulled two golf bags -- his and hers -- out of the back as well. The two fatalities are the latest in what has been a lethal two weeks on Manatee County roads. Seven people have been killed in traffic crashes in that time, including two elderly women from Ohio who died after a Tuesday night crash. That crash, which was on U.S. 41, was eerily similar to Thursday's wreck because the driver inexplicably drove into the wrong lane and collided head-on with another vehicle. As troopers investigated Thursday's crash, fire department officials were determining how to ensure the Myakka City fire district remains adequately covered. Dodge said he, Braden River Fire Chief Henry Sheffield and other fire officials planned to meet, as early as Thursday night, to ensure the Myakka district is covered while the engine is out of service. The $225,000 fire truck, which the Myakka City Fire Department bought two years ago, received damage to its front. Dodge said an inspection would determine if the truck -- or any of the $50,000 in equipment the truck was carrying -- was damaged beyond repair. Sheffield said the Braden River district, which is involved in an interlocal agreement with Myakka City, probably will lend Dodge a reserve engine. Dodge said the district will be staffed by its 18 volunteers or with firefighters contracted out from the Braden River district until Groover and Kersey return to work, which could be in a couple days. Myakka City has left in its fleet an engine, attack truck, brush truck and two tankers.
