What I do have is Hernado's family on the OAKLEY side to abt 1818 for sure and to about 1681 as a guess and on his Shipman side to about 1630. In looking at the rest of the surnames on your page there were several that cross over to the SHIPMAN family- ATWOOD- WHEELER- SQUIRE- STANFORD to name a few. Wheeler, Squire & Stanford where direct connections to Hernado through his SHIPMAN grandmothers. I will keep an eye out for more KERSEYs as I dig deeper into the OAKLEY lines. Do you know what states the KERSEY line was in the most? I know that WHEELER/SQUIRE/SHIPMAN were CT & NT and SHIPMAN/STANDFORD were PA and OAKLEY/SHIPMAN were VA. Sandra

Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999 22:13:24 EST From: BHP32743@aol.com Subject: Re: Kersey land records in Wilcox Co., Alabama The Kerseys in Wilcox Co., AL are my Kerseys. Jesse is the father of John (Jonathan Joseph Kersey). Jesse was born in Lumberton, Robeson, NC. He got the land in Wilcox as bounty land for his service in the War of 1812 for both SC and NC. He lived in Fairfield and Richland Counties in SC before moving to AL about 1850 or 51. On Oct. 22, 1853 in Camden, Wilcox, AL Jesse sold for one dollar to his daughters Frances M. Kersey and Mary Eliza Kersey 40 acres of land. On the same day he sold 40 acres of land for one dollar to his daughter Sarah Jane Lott, wife of Allston Lott and another 40 acres for one dollar to his daughter Martha Ann Lott, wife of Anson Lott (my g-g-g grandparents). I am still searching for the parents of Jesse. It appears he was part Lumbee Indian (or that is what they are called today). On his enlistment papers he is described as height - 5'4", eyes - dark, hair - light, complexion - fair, age - 25, occupation - farmer, born - Robertson(sic) Co., NC. Barbara Patterson

Date: Tue, 23 Mar 1999 09:40:08 EST From: BUFFUM2@aol.com Subject: Re: Kersey land records in Wilcox Co., Alabama Marve and Kersey's, I think that there might be more of a connection of these Kersey's to mine, than any that I have seen, yet. I've told the story before, but I need help on this if it is a connection. My Stephen was born abt 1812 in SC. He was an indian child adopted by a white man, and educated to be a doctor. Could this have been Jesse ?, Could Jesse have been a blood relation to Stephen ? There are Kersey's on the Lumbee Tribe List. I first found Stephen and his family on the 1850 Pike County, Alabama Census. Wilcox County is not far from Pike County. I am like Pat, I have to find Stephen's parents in order to solve this. So far I have gotten no where because of the Indian ancestry. I don't have anything describing Stephen's complection, but I do have something describing Stephen's son Benjamin F. Kersey's civil war papers describing him as 5' 8" tall and dark eyes, dark complection. Help me figure this out ! I am getting saturated with all of this Kersey genealogy, and can't think, as well, as I did. It tryly is mind boggling. Pat , Janas and I could be looking for the same ancestors. Don't you just love a good mystery? If we solve it----What would we do ??? Doris

I do beleive though that William and My John A. Kersey are related either brothers or cousins as they were both in the same place at the same time. There is still a lot of the Kersey's that are related to the early Kersey's still living there at this time. Do you have any other information on William's family. I am still looking for John A. Kersey's parents and sibblings. I haven't been able to find any thing on them prior to 1850 when John showed up in Appling County. I have reason to beleive that Dorcus Kersey living with an Asbell family in Appling County during this same time just might be John A's mother. According to the census there is twelve years different in John and Williams age. In the 1860 census there was only 4 Kersey familes listed living in Appling County. William, John A., Georgia, Dorcus. I have other information for 1870 and 1880 if you are interested. Sara

I do have something ironic to tell you though. Desta Dyal, whose grandmother was Pocahontas Kersey lives in that area. You can e-mail her and ask her that question. She is also doing the Kersey genealogy. She is suppose to be in Pensacola soon. She has a son that lives here. You can e-mail her at destadyal@aol.com. She's in her late seventies, and just might not answer your e-mail though. If you mention the Dyal Cemetery, it might help. Good Luck, Doris

I will have to translate the pictures before I can see them. I think I will be able to do that. I have a new computer. I am still learning about it. There has been no usable Kersey news lately. I am still hoping. I tried another approach. I went through the Library of VA web page to the VA genealogy group there. They post information on anyone born in VA. So far, no one has responded about Robert Kersey. It is very tedious, however, since they post an awful lot of information that we can't use. Mother and I will travel to Rome on April 9 for her Dr. appointment. We will go from there to Elegy for Brandon and Michelle's wedding on April 10. We will probably spend the night in Elegy. Date: Sat, 27 Mar 1999 09:10:11 -0800 From: "jaxpcs" <jaxpcs@alltel.net> Subject: Kersey-Bradenton Florida Trying again to find anyone who might know of my Kerseys. My ggrandfather was Allen Bert Kersey (b. 1/1/1893 in Florida, d. 12/21/1965 at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Fl). Allen Bert Kersey is buried at the Florida State Hospital Cemetery as well. He was married to Emma Lee Wright, who remarried sometime after Allen Bert Kersey was admitted to the hospital. They resided in Sarasota and had the following children, some of whom are still alive and may be in the Bradenton area: Charles (Charlie), Mary (died?), Laverne, Allen, Warren (died in Georgia?), Lois Mildred Kersey (my grandmother, deceased). Allen Bert Kersey's father's name on the death certificate is William Kersey, and the mother was Laura. I have access to every piece of census data written for Florida-Georgia-Alabama and do not find this family (at least by their given names). If you have Kerseys in Florida, please visit my site and see if you recognize any of mine. I think some inaccurate census data has placed an immovable obstacle in front of me. My website is at http://www.alltel.net/~jaxpcs. Please feel free to sign the guestbook as well so I can find you easily again. Christopher Smith

I thought at first that this could be Troy's ISSAC KERSEY, but the birthdates are not the same and this Issac was born in Florida, whereas Troy's Issac was born in Alabama. Troy said that his Issac moved back to either AL. GA, or TN, during the late 1880's. My library doesn't have the 1900 Soundex on these three States. However it does have the 1880 Soundex for Ga & Al, but not TN. I looked at both Ga and Al and no Issac Kersey on the 1880 Soundex. It would be nice if any of you could help Troy on this. ______________________________________________________________________ MANATEE COUNTY Manatee County is down on the West Coast of Florida, Sarasota is in Manatee County.
