Joseph Tallie Kersey is my great great grandfather, I am even named after him. My mother named me Tally. The name has in fact been handed down to several of his ancestors as a middle name. Can you give me any more information on any of his other ancestors? Thanks, Tally Wright

In the Quaker branch of the family (my line) there is a very long standing legend that John Kersey came from Ayrshire Scotland about 1650. I have three unconnected McKerseys in my database. One in Ontario about 1900, one in New York City about 1850, and one in Oneida Co., New York about 1820. I haven't seen any stories connecting the American Kerseys to the McKersey surname. It's an intriguing possibility. Maybe someone on the list has some more information? I don't know if anyone can use any of this information, but I've got some info off of several census'...hope it's useful to someone. On the 1900 census for Swainsboro, Emmanuel County, Georgia, I have a James Kersey who was a hireling for a McEachin. There is no other information listed for him. In 1910, there was Charley Kersey (age 35) , his wife Ellen (age 20), and their children Willie (age 7), Sallie (age 6), and Hattie (age 3). Also in 1910, there was James B. Kersey (age 28), his wife F. R. (hard to read-age 27), and children Flora V. (age10), Boyd V. ( age 7), Loyd J., A? (age 4), and Lancis (age 2). All these names were extremely hard to read, so there are probably some mistakes. In 1910, there was Thomas Kersey (age 60), with wife Susan (age 56), and children M.? (age 28), Unicy (age 26), Mary (age 24), and W.? (age 14). And these next ones, I believe were in 1910, but my information on this got a little jumbled, and stupid me didn't record on each page the year of the census. James D. Kersey (age 40), wife Mary (age 37), children Solomon (age 16), Joseph (age 13), Mary (age 7), Rachel (age 1). John B. Kersey (age 46) , wife Sarah (age 39) , children Martha (age 16) , Celia (age 15), James (age 11), M. Oslin ??? (age 9) , Jacob J. (age 5), Nancy (age 9 mo.) And living with them was John Byrn (age 18) working on the farm. Soloman Kersey (age 42) , wife Maryetta? ( age 40), Jane (age 15 or 18), Eda (age 13), Martha J. (age 10), and James (age 5). Living with them was Deslimary Woods (age 25). Ealisha Kersey, wife Louisa, children Troy, Oliver, Odear, Susie, Lena M. , Thomas, and Hughey. And from the index for 1910, I have listed Thomas Kersey (age 60) Ambust Kersey (age 19) Eliza? Kersey (age 62) James D. Kersey (age 40) John B. Kersey (age 46) Molly Kersey (age 29) Rebecca Kersey (age 18) Soloman J. Kersey (age 42) Unicy Kersey (age 10) All these are listed in Swainsboro, Emmanuel Co., Georgia, I can supply Series, Roll, and page #'s for the census. For 1860 I have: A. Kersey A.W. Kersey Calvin Kersey Darcus Kersey F. Kersey George Kersey Henry Kersey Isaac L. Kersey James Kersey John A. Kersey L.H. Kersey M. Kersey Rachel Kersey Rebecca A. Kersey Robert Kersey Sarah Kersey ' Simpson Kersey I have " Fayette" listed by all these, so I don't know if this is Fayette Co., Georgia or not, I'm presuming so. I apologize for all the indescrepencies, but at the time 4 years ago, when I was doing this research, I wasn't researching the Kersey's, but I just jotted any info I found. Hope this helps!! Kristi

#26. Kersey Fw: RE Civil War - from Marv Miller
Top
From: <Donnakk@aol.com> To: Kersey List <millerm@halcyon.com> Sent: Saturday, July 03, 1999 3:40 PM Subject: RE Civil War Hi, Civil War database I have ggrandparents from Tennessee and none of them were listed. Nothing for the whole state. They are the ones I definitely had exact information. So I looked up the Regiments and that part is listed, but they claim that some states information is more difficult to transcribe and they are not finished. They do not know how long it will be. I gather that the regiments are recorded in these states in many different parts and the ones they have listed now are compiled into who served in the whole state. So some whole states are not even there. Didn't realize this at first. Donna Kursey

Unfortunately when I was there it was closed due to a death in the family and I didn't get to talk to anyone. Thought someone might like the photo tho.
