This has Asher Kersey in his old age and a separate picture of Jane Schooley Kersey Kindley. To get the other set, kersy13.jpg, simply edit the 2 to 3 in the subject line. Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 18:49:28 -0700 From: "Marv Miller" <millerm@halcyon.com> Subject: Asher Kersey Hi folks-- Found this while surfing: http://www.genhist.com/IABios/hardin/h1883-providence.htm History of Hardin County, Iowa Springfield, Ill: Union Publishing Company., 1883 Providence Township Asher Kersey Asher Kersey was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, April 22, 1807, where he received a limited education. In the fall of 1825 his parents left North Carolina with teams and prairie schooners, locating in Wayne county, Indiana, where his father erected a log cabin in the timber, cleared and opened up a farm. There they remained a number of years, when he sold out and purchased a farm in Henry county, where he remained until his death, which occurred April 23, 1844. His mother died September 20, 1868. The subject of this memoir was married in Wayne county, Indiana, August 5, 1829, to Susannah Morgan. She was born in Wayne county, Indiana, November 6, 1809. There were two children, one of which died in infancy, and Benj. V., who enlisted, September, 1861, in the 11th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, Company B; was taken prisoner on the 22d day of July, 1864, and was imprisoned at Andersonville for a couple of months. From there he went to Florence, South Carolina, where he contracted a disease which resulted in his death, February 6, 1865. Mrs. Kersey died November 2, 1833, and for his second wife, Mr. Kersey married Edith Schooley. She was born in Randolph county, Indiana, February 8, 1818. By this union there were eight children, six of whom are now living -- Jane, Martha, Thomas C., Elizabeth, Albert H. and Ada. Mrs. Kersey died February 15, 1858. Mr. Kersey afterwards married Susan M. Tulburt, who came to this county in the spring of 1852, from North Carolina, in company with her mother, four sisters and one brother, who was but a boy at the time. It was an undertaking for a stout-hearted man to leave North Carolina, in company with teams to Illinois. She was born in Yadkin county, North Carolina, January 31, 1829. Two children blessed this union -- Wm. F. and Retta. Mr. Kersey came to Iowa in 1855, locating in Marshall county, where he remained one year, and, April 22, 1856, came to the place where he now lives. He has 90 acres of land, all under cultivation, valued at $45 per acre. Mr. and Mrs. Kersey are members of the Friends Church. Marv millerm@halcyon.com http://www.halcyon.com/millerm

I am a descendant of Jane Schooley Kersey, daughter of Asher and Edith Schooley Kersey. I am interested in information on the Kindley-Kersey line. I accessed the pewholder list of St. Lukes, as given by Marv, and found at the bottom of that page the following: Cabinet maker, Matthew Kirby, and carpenter James Valiant were contracted in 1730 for construction. I am happy to join this discussion list and look forward to expanding my knowledge of family.

I just wish I could find the same link to my mother';s family. i have a lot of information but it would be fun to find some cousins I didn't know existed. Let me know about the pictures. From: Rick Blangiardi To: millerm@halcyon.com Sent: Thursday, July 29, 1999 5:03 PM Subject: Your are a Godsend! Marv: Thank you for passing along the possible connections to my great-grandfather, James Alton Kersey. I think they match up! The 1850 Census from Franklin County, Indiana, (which you forwarded) lists a sibling to James named "Louisa." I found in the pension files an affidavit from a woman named "Louisa Hatch" who stated she was James Alton's brother. It fits! In checking your references, how did you determine Daniel T. Kersey was born in 1807? Was that an educated guess based on his age in 1850 or did you find his birthdate listed somewhere? I found a Daniel Kersey in the 1820 Dearborn Cty., Indiana, census as well as a Daniel Kersey in the 1810 Somerset Cty, Maine, census. I haven't discovered any details on those yet. I had been intending to go through the census sites myself, but unfortunately I lost my beloved older sister -- Janice Kersey Marshall -- and have been attending to the Kersey family of today. We are all so sad and miss her terribly. She was only 53 and died unexpectedly. You may remember when I first contacted the list, you sent me an email from another Kersey in my line who turned out to be my cousin Karl. Since you put us together, Karl and I have been trading info and emails. Bless him...he came to my sister's memorial service and it was lovely to see him face-to-face. Thanks for all you have done. I have been searching for Benjamin Franklin Kersey and his wife Martha Vaughn for a while with no results. I finally broke through and found (with help from cousins from far away) Martha's side of the picture. There may be a chance this family exists in another KERSEY family tree, so I will lay it out for you all. Unfortunately, B. F. is still a mystery, but..... Benjamin Franklin Kersey b. 1843 Ga m. 1867 Marshall Co., Tn Martha Vaughn b. 1846 Belfast Marshall Co. Tn Her parents: James W. Vaughn b. 1818 Tn m. 1846 Marshall Co., Tn Elizabeth (Lizetta) Wall b. 1817 Va Her Brother: James H. Vaughn b. 1850 Belfast Marshall Co., Tn Lizetta's brothers: Leroy Wall, Andrew Wall, Theophilus Wall Leroy died and left the following children: James, Joseph and Thomas Wall. James and Joseph were raised by Lizetta and James Vaughn. Thomas was raised by Theophilus. Martha and B. F. moved to Van Alstyne, Grayson Co., Tx with her cousins James and Joseph in 1880. Thomas came after 1880. In the list of family names I was given, the following was included: Daniel Wall(s) married Sally Kersey Sept. 7, 1839 in Franklin Co., Tn I have my fingers crossed!! Julia

Emily Frances Haworth Ernest Elwood Kersey m. Minnie Viola Robinson Mary Wynona Kersey m. George Ronald Bottorff Mary is my grandmother, still living. I am trying to track the family tree as a gift to her. I have pretty good info on the most recent generations - I also have my great-grandparents' Kersey family Bible, and a few photos, which I am trying to get scanned as we speak. Let me know if I can fill in any blanks for anyone. What am I looking for? I am trying to verify the genealogy (with data AND sources) further back. I am also looking for anyone with photos, stories, or anything to help make a genealogy more robust. I'll gladly share what I can. Thanks for reading!

Kersey was based on his age in the 1850 census. He would be too young to show up in the 1810 or 1820 censuses. Those censuses only listed heads of households. Maybe his father's name was Daniel also. McLirna L. Dickinson on 27 March 1884 in Jacksonville, Duval County Courthouse. They had 2 children: ?(Jasie)? Kersey who married Thomas Chesser 22 Nov 1903 and Ida Mae Kersey who married Jackso C. Sapp 22 March 1904. Joseph Cone Kersey then m. 2. Mary Poore(Poare?) on 6 April 1903...Mary Poore had 2 children from a previous marriage (Mary and David) Joseph Cone is the only brother/sister to William Jackson Kersey that I have info on. Next is William Jackson Kersey, my great-grandfather. William Jackson Kersey was born 16 Nov 1863 in Georgia and died 24 Sept 1934 I believe in Clay County Florida. William J. married Frances Candasy Moody on 8 Aug 1885 in Jefferson County Florida. Frances was born 5 Nov 1869 in ? and died 17 Jun 1956 in ?. William Jackson Kersey and Frances C. Moody hadf 13 children: Bertie Kersey(1886-1958) m. Jim Austin Percy Kersey(1888-1888) Jesse Kersey(1889-1917)m. Flora Pearson Grace Kersey(1892-? )m.1.Henry Norman...2.Rev. Velma McCrackin Jewell Kersey(1912-?) m. 1. Earl Keltner...2. Charles Steinhoff Gladys Kersey(1914-1954) m. Ollie McCrackin The only one of those kids above that I have further info on is Katie Mae Kersey she's my Grandmother. If you wold like info on the children and grand children of Katie Mae Kersey and Hannis Burnette, please just let me know....I really hoped this helped with something.....I have been tryng to find some of my Kersey cousins from William Kersey and Mary Scarbrough if you would please point me in the right direction to e-mail them I would certainly appreciate it very much. #47. Kersey list - from PETENOEL@aol.com

Date: Fri, 30 Jul 1999 21:47:10 EDT From: PETENOEL@aol.com Subject: Kersey list Marv...you have done one monumental job compiling the Kersey listing. Congratulations and long may you continue searching and finding. Now, some minor corrections on my line: My Dad, Noel Hoyt Kersey, is not listed in your individual name listing (or maybe you don't put living people in that listing?). He was the son of William who was the son of Bannister He married Mary Katherine Robison, not Robinson. The son of William named Erquet Kersey is actually William Erquet Kersey. Bannister, as you have listed, was married twice but the children from each issue differ from my listing. Children of Bannister and Nancy Lawhorn (1st marriage) were: Emeline, Tilman, Julia, Elephir, Angenina, Martha, William and Bannister Children of Bannister and Sarah McCloud (2nd marriage) were: Joseph, Molly, Toby, Cornelia, Cynthia and Koeniy (spelling really uncertain) Also noticed your listing showed Julia and Martha as having middle names of Ann. Do you have some record I haven't seen? Finally, you have listed a child "Joel" as son of William and Mary Ellen Noel which I don't have I hope there is a record somewhere I have missed and you have not. By the way I have a mystery you or someone might be able to shed some light on. In Shellman, Ga, 4 Nov 1869 Joseph Kersey married Ellen Aycock. But I am unsure if the Joseph is William's son or (a little stretch) Bannister's brother Joseph. I really need a field trip to Jefferson County, Ga, Bannisters birth and marriage place to perhaps clear up some of these questions. I'll quit now. Pete Kersey

So, very glad to find this wonderful list!! I am searching for information on GRANT (GRANTLAND) KERSEY) who married FRANCES ROBERTS (there seems to be no information on this marriage). Grantland was born Nov. 30, 1898 in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. He died in 1970 in Clearwater, Fla, but was buried in Perry, Ga.. Grantland's parents were: CHARLES ANDERSON KERSEY and JULIA VIRGINIA (JENNIE) TRAYLOR (Julia b. July 4, 1861 and married to Charles on Dec. 10, 1882) What I need more than ANYTHING!! is to know if Grant was living in Decatur (DeKalb County) Georgia in 1930. This is extremely important to my search. Any information or suggestions that someone on the list may provide will be much appreciated. Sincerely, Judy (if you wish to email me directly - please feel free to do so at - Jumeaujs1@aol.com )

According to census records he was b. in VA (unknown Co.). and according to all of his War of 1812 papers, pension papers and those for bounty land he would have been b. in 1787. He went from VA to TN>Jackson Co AL ca 1827>Marion Co TN ca 1841>Sebastian Co AR ca 1855 where he died in 1863. Does anyone have a GEORGE KERSEY/GEORGE M. KERSEY in their Kersey family? I have searched and researched everything I can think of without any luck. Pat
