It is not as extensive as I had been led to believe and I think TomNRose have all this, but here goes anyway. Charles Kersey b ? somewhere in Georgia ? wife Judy b 1803 location unknown children: James M b 1840 Georgia unknown county (So Charles ought to show up in the census somewhere in Georgia in 1840) Edward J. b 1842 Florida Sarah A. b 1846 Florida Nathaniel C. b 1848 Florida Edward Jackson Kersey son of Charles, m Elizabeth Hampton 27 Aug 1862, Jefferson Cnty, Florida. d 10 Jan 1901 Children: Charles b 1864 William b 1866 James b 1868/70 Chandler b Oct 1871 Burton K. b 4 Apr 1872..Jefferson Cnty, Fl Sheldon b 1879...m Annie McClellan Female, name unknown b 1881 Edward b 1884 Edward m #2 Ada Horton 19 July 1885, Jefferson Cnty, Fl Burton K. Perhaps they have filled in a lot of the blanks in this since that time. I noted with a great deal of interest that this group was in Jefferson County in 1850 according to a census listing, the same year my Bannister showed up in Florida. I keep having this dogged feeling there is a link here that just will not show itself to us yet......I'm also starting to wonder if the family records saying Bannister was born in Jefferson County, Ga, in 1796, might really supposed to be Jefferson County, Florida?!?!?!? Children of Simon Kersey and Ida Ufford, also Henry Kersey and Ann Kinney. One, Elmer Nicholas Kersey b. 1884, seems to match a 1957 Vancouver, B.C. death record that I had found previously. They are: Number 1 Mary Alice Reese (b. 6/20/1876, d. 2/14/1893) m. 12/3/1873 to Alfred Kersey (b. 8/24/1851, d. 12/1/1929) Number 2 Nancy Ellen Reese (b.9/22/1842, d. 2/3/1916) m. 8/15/1865 Ezekial Kersey (b. 8/31/1837, d. ?) I was shocked to see a dry goods store on the square with the sign "kerseys' one of newnans finest stores" i met the gentleman and was pleased that he was so well respected by the community. I did not develop a close association with the family as uncle sugar had other things for me to do most of the time. I was declared and orphan when my mother died suddenly and was placed in the baptist children's home in Arcadia. Fla. i have no information on my father other than his name. thank you for the terrific service and pleasure. john c, kersey

Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 11:26:57 EDT From: WPMAINS@aol.com Subject: Kersey:CMD:SUBSCRIBE marv miller, I have been interested in Kersey history for about ten years and have collected quite a bit of history on our line of Kerseys starting with William [1720-1764] . I would be very interested in exchanging information with anybody that is interested in this line. William was a Quaker and last lived in Guilford County, North Carolina. I have proof of William and on down to the present but would like info on his father and grandfather. One tradition has John Kersey # 1 arriving from Scotland in 1750 [born 1633] having a son also named John [#2] which is our Williams father. Another tradition has John # 2 being the first Kersey in America arriving in the late 1600s. I have no proof of any of these traditions of the two John Kerseys but believe the first one to be the more logical of the two. I am useing my daughter's server because she has unlimited access but I wish you would get in touch with me at my address at HCK28@cs.com because I am in the process of finishing up on a family history book that I am writing for my family and would sure enjoy including any info others might have. Thank You, Harold Kersey, Lexington, Ky.

#30. Kersey Distribution - from Joe Kersey
Top
Date: Sun, 22 Aug 1999 14:14:47 -0500 From: "Joe Kersey" <jakersey@erols.com> Subject: Kersey Distribution When Was Grandpa Jones Born? (This was previously published in the March 1998 issue of GenCom News, a quarterly publication of the Genealogical Computing Group, a special interest group of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists, Inc., Wellington, NZ. It was reprinted in the fall issue of the Phoenician, a quarterly publication of the Phoenix Society which is an organization of retired members of the cryptologic community of the U. S.) Jim Gordon, jimgordo@digizen.net As you proceed apace in digging up the roots of your family tree, you will visit cemeteries, graveyards or church yards searching out your ancestors or consulting transcriptions of such facilities. Gravestones or head stones will usually display the person’s lifespan from date of birth to date of death. Sometimes, however, just to indicate that the family was learned, the gravestone will record the date and the age of the person to the day. Given the date of death and the life span to the day, how can you tell the date of birth? Actually it’s not difficult. Most calendars used today ( and in the past) are arranged in twelve months of about 30 days. Therefore simply arithmetic of subtracting the age from the date of death will give the date of birth. Nope! Not that simple! Calendars combine three different number systems, based on 10, 12 or 30. Our year numbering systems are based on the number 10, while the calendar months are based on the number 12 and days in the month are based on the number 30. This complicates the “carrying” of numbers in addition and subtraction. Background It wasn’t enough that the Babylonians saddled us with the 30-day,12-month, decimal year system; culture, politics and religion have complicated things. Practically every calendar system in use today and in the recent past is based on the 12-month, 365-day year. However the year is actually 365 and one-fourth days long, days and months are added periodically to each calendar to bring it back into line with the seasons and the phases of the moon. The Method The title of this article is “When Ws Grandpa Jones Born?” The mechanics are quite simple. As I said, virtually all the calendars systems in use today use a twelve month year of (usually) 30 days or 3l days, the exception being the second month of the Gregorian Calendar, February. Given a life span in years, months and days and the date of death, the date of birth is calculated by subtracting the life span from the date of death. When the number of days in the life span is greater than the day of death, you borrow 30 days from the number of months and reduce its number by one. Example: A person died on 3 November 1951 at the age of 87 years, 10 months 14 days: Year Month Day Date of Death 1951 11 03 Age 87 10 14 As 14 is obviously larger than 3, you have to “borrow” a month to make 3 larger than 14. Thus, Date of Death 1951 10 33 Age 87 10 14 -------- -- -- ----- 19 We have subtracted 14 from 33, giving us a date of the 19th of the month for this person’s date of birth. This causes another problem—10 subtracted from 10 is zero and there is no zero month. So now we have to “borrow” gain. The same principle noted above works in this case too. Instead of adding 1 to the month figure, we have to add 12 because we are borrowing one year of 12 months: Year Months Days Date of Death 1950 22 33 Age 87 10 14 ------- ----- ---- 12 19 Now we have resolved the person’s date of birth to the 19th day of the 12th month (December in the Gregorian Calendar). Next we go to determine the year of birth. This is actually the easiest of all because at last we are dealing with only decimal arithmetic. Subtract 87 from 1950 and you get 1863. So this person was born 19 December 1963. This is not the end of the process. Because I know that this person was born on December 18, 1863 and determined his life span using this method. So you may say,, “The method is flawed.” No. When dealing with dates and date spans, you have to subtract one day to your results because you are not working with differences, but rather spans of dates. This is called “inclusive dates”. So whether you have a life span or are trying to determine a birth or death date or have the two dates and wish to determine the span between them, you have to subtract one day to the result to get a proper figure. An old Anglo-Saxon saying is “The proof of the pudding is in the eating”. Here’s the proof. I was born 28 October 1932 and today is 2 February 1998. Using the method, Step one: Today: 1998 02 02 Birth: 1932 10 28 Borrowing a month: Today: 1998 01 32 Birith: 1932 10 28 04 Step Two: Today: 1998 13 32 Birth: 1932 10 28 -------- ----- -- ---- Age: 65 03 04 Step Three: Adding one day for inclusive dates gives my age as 65 years, 3 months and 5 days. Now the proof: Subtracting 1998 from 1932 gives 66, but not a whole year has elapsed since my birthday. I’m only 65. Start counting months with 29 October (when I was one day old). There are three months to February ( 29 October to 29 January = three months) From 29 January 31 is three days plus two days in February totals five days. Summary This method will work with just about any calendar system and will also work between calendar systems simply by reckoning the numeric value of the month. Even though the number of days in a month may not always be 30, the method works, nevertheless. When working with different calendar systems, you have to convert on system to another.

My records do not correspond with my father's recollection; they show David's wife's name as 'Annie McClellan' -- I don't know yet how to reconcile this information. In any event, I am not aware of Aline's maiden name. David's father was Edward Jackson Kersey and mother was Ada Horton from the line that Rose provided some days ago. Top
Date: Tue, 24 Aug 1999 21:00:46 -0500 From: "Joe Kersey" <jakersey@erols.com> Subject: Kersey Group (Follow-up on Grandpa Jones there is aproblem in the calendar calculations if one finds a person who was born before 1952. In the late 1500's Pope Gregory proposed a new calendar to replace the Julian Calendar then in existence. He proposed the insertion of a leap day every four years. Also at that time, he moved the calendar ahead 10 days (March 11 became March 21). It was not until 1752 that the United States and England adopted the Gregorian calendar. By that time the difference was about 11 days. For that reason, is anyone finds a gravestone which calculates to the birth of the deceased to be born before 1752 by the Gregorian Scale, then the date by the Julian scale would be wrong by about 10 or 11 days. I'm not sure how much differencethis would make, but it should be kept in mind. Joe Kersey jakersey@erols.com
