You filled in quite a few gaps in my information. I was very intrigued to see that you trace to a John Kersey b. 1764 in Pittsylvania, Virgina. I have a John Kersey b. 11 Mar 1764 d. 9 Dec 1852 in Boone Co., Indiana. He married Lucretia Hutcherson. Several of his children went to Indiana. I don't know about the others, including his son John, who I have as marrying Kitty Cauthon in 1810 in Louisa Co., Virginia. No further descendant information on the son John. Does any of this match your data? I would be very interested to verify this apparent connection between the Georgia Kerseys and the Indiana Kerseys. You might like to join the Kersey family discussion list. We are a free e-mail discussion group with over 100 Kersey researchers world wide, including quite a few with Georgia connections and several on your lines. If your James' son was named William Harrison, however, that could be our match! I shook my family tree and lo and behold Elizabeth Cheshire fell out. She married Elias Aycock (according to family records) I don't know when or where. They were parents to Ellen Aycock who married my Joseph Kersey on 4 Nov 1869 in Shellman, Ga. What I am not positive of is whether Joseph is the son of Elijy Kersey and married at approximately age 49, or Joseph the son of Bannister Kersey and got married at the age of 22. Marv millerm@halcyon.com http://www.halcyon.com/millerm http://www.quarked.com/genealogy/files/notes.html#NI329 FROM DELTA COUNTY HISTORY 1870 - 1990 by Evelyn, Viola, Jimmie and Billy Sandlin -------------------------------------------------------------------------- GRACIE KERSEY SANDLIN On November 25, 1917, Gracie Kersey of Nevada, Collin County, Texas married Charlie Monroe Sandlin of Pecan Gap, Delta County, Texas. The couple was married in the home of the bride's parents, James and Sarah Kersey. On their wedding day, the new Mrs. Gracie Sandlin came to Pecan Gap , Texas and has been a part of Delta County for 50 years. (The couple moved back to Nevada in 1920 but returned to Pecan Gap in 1943). The mother of six children, Gracie worked hard as a homemaker and caring for her young. She also worked hard as a young girl. As long as we can remember, Mother's hands were always busy. She would tell us, "Idle hands and mind is the Devil's workshop." Even in the evening, after a long day of work, when she sat down, Gracie would pick up hand work of some beautiful pieces she was making. she taught all of us to work hard at an early age. We all had our own chores to do daily as well as working in the fields, since we always lived on a farm. By all of us working together as a family, we came through some very difficult times in those growing up years. We never had many material things but we had untold wealth in a home with every nook and corner filled with love from loving Christian parents who were always there for us. One of our most pleasurable times as a family was at supper-time as we gathered around our long table. Daddy would sit at the head of the table. Mother at the end and all of the six children along the sides - three to each side on wooden benches. We could not cut-up and play at the table while eating, but we each would be so content and happy talking over our day. Mother was always the first one up and the last one to bed each new day. Sundays were always a beautiful day for us. Mother taught us to always remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. It was our day for going to church. It also was our day of rest before starting another week. Mother maintained her little home and yard in Pecan Gap until she was almost 90 years old. However, due to failing health and circumstances beyond our control, she couldn't stay in her home. On September 22, 1983, Birchwood Manor at Cooper became her home. She will always tell us that "This is a very nice place to live, but it's not like home to me." Come this September 22, 1990, she will have been there seven years. Our Mother will be 97 years old on November 7, 1990. She is the last member of her Kersey family. Her mother, father, three sisters and two brothers are gone. Our father, Mon Sandlin, died March 18, 1971. Our brother, John, died May 21, 1989. Mother and Mrs. Walter Sandlin (Ruth) are the last two in the John Robert Sandlin family. We children have been so blessed to have Mother still with us even though her good days grow few. Her love for family, friends, her Lord and her church gets her through each day. She still reads her Bible even though her eyesight isn't too good. She quotes from the Bible and, on a good day, you will drop in on her she will be singing one of her favorite hymns. When we all get together, she looks around, her blue eyes sparkling, and with a smile on her face, she will always say, "This is the prettiest family I've ever seen - but all of you always remember 'Pretty is as Pretty does'. Her love is so great for each member of her family. She sees the beauty within each. So, to you dear Mother, we give our thanks for building the cornerstone of our strong foundation on which we stand. We love you.

Date: Sat, 11 Sep 1999 22:42:16 EDT From: Graylwolfe@aol.com Subject: Re: Charles Austin Kersey's wife Hi Joe, Gary, Diane, Joyce As you may know, Charles Austin Kersey's wife was Julia Virginia Trayor. Her grandparents were Samuel and Mary Darden. After searching for a long time, Mother, my sister, and I found the Darden homeplace. It is near Greenville GA. in Meriwether County GA. It's located on GA Spur 109 going toward Gay, GA. It is just before you get to the 4 mile marker on the right. It is a white two story house with four white columns on the front. It sits off the road. The Darden cemetery is located about one mile farther down the road, and you will see a dirt road going to the right. That is the Oakfuskie Indian Trail. Take that road for a short distance. The cemetery is located in a group of young pine trees on the right.(It is on private property.) Samuel Darden is buried there. The cemetery is in very bad shape. Trees have fallen on the graves, and all are broken. The house has been placed on the National Registry of Homes. The house was built in 1845. The current owner showed us part of the house. Her name is Sallie Keith. She has all the documentation on the house as well as the Darden family history. The living room has the original color which is blue. Two bedrooms have the original colors-mustard yellow and golden orange. She restoring the house as she has time. This was an exciting time for us to find the house and get to go inside. The owner said that no one had ever inquired about the Darden house. As an after thought, Our family passed the house many times during the 50's, but we did not know that it was the Darden house. I hope this will help the family. Mary Wolfe Graylwolfe@aol.com
