Date: Sun, 19 Sep 1999 10:35:08 -0500 From: Phyllis Hammack <phammack@goldinc.com> Subject: Kersey kinship Dear Mr. Miller: I have recently been in touch with Joe Kersey and with Mary Wolfe regarding my Kersey background. My mother Joyce Kersey Haywood is actually the one who is most interested in the family geneology, although I must admit that as I help her research I'm becoming more and more interested myself! Will you please add our names to your geneology group roster? Mother doesn't have an email address, so if you wish to contact her via email, you may just use mine. I'll be sure that she gets the message. Mother (Joyce) is the eldest daughter of Melvin Eugene Kersey, Sr., and Jodie Mae Ford of Thomaston, Georgia. Her brother and sisters are all still alive and well. In fact, her brother Melvin Kersey, Jr., is very interested in geneology himself--you may already be in touch with him. Mother and I are just getting started with our interest in geneology, so we're neophytes at this, but we are very pleased to have discovered some of our "missing" relatives. Thank you for adding us to your list. I will be happy to send you more family information to add to your tree. I have two children myself, and my two sisters each have one child. Sincerely, Phyllis Hammack

(Simes) Morris, and was born in Wood County, Tex., January 10, 1860. At the age of six years he was brought to Sebastian County, Ark., and was reared in White Oak Township, his early life being spent in farming and attending the district schools. He received sufficient early education to enable him to transact all his business affairs, and at the age of twenty years was sent to school for the greater part of the year by his father, whose habit had been to give his sons their liberty at the age of twenty, or to school them one year. George L. accepted the latter, and made good use of his time while in school. Having lived a life of single blessedness until March 26, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Medora A. William was born in the late 1740s in Baltimore Co., MD, moved with his parents Henry and Elizabeth Kersey and his brothers and sisters in the mid to late 1760s to old Yohagania Co., VA (where this William would have been in the 1770s), and their land in Yohagania Co. became part of Washington Co., PA, around 1780. According to Samuel's son, William Harrison Kersey, he was born in "One of the original 13 colonies." I have had some extensive research done on Delaware Kerseys that did not bring out Samuel, or his parents. Curiously, Samuel doesn't show up on a census in Ohio until 1820, even though his children were born there as early as 1810. Also, this group of Kersey folks appear to be closely related to a group of Tunis folks who are "marrying neighbors and cousins". Allyson Monroe Tilton
