#7. Kersey: VA,WVA,KY? - from pathenry@micron.net
Top
Date: Sun, 24 Oct 1999 17:52:01 -0600 From: pathenry@micron.net Subject: Kersey: VA,WVA,KY? Do any of you new members on the list possibly have a GEORGE KERSEY in your family? In VA, WVA, KY? According to all of his records--bounty land, 1812 war, census etc---they indicate he was b. in 1787. All of the census records say he was b. in VA.(county unknown). I haven't been able to find his parents/siblings or county he was born in after looking for quite a number of years in VA. Being born in 1787, could it be possible that he was born in the part of VA that later became WVA or KY? KY didn't become a state until 1792 and WVA long after that. Anyone have thoughts on this possibility? Any input greatly appreciated. Pat

When I saw your posting, my first thought was "Kersey marrying Hadley -- must be Quaker". But I couldn't find them in my Quaker material. In fact, I couldn't find them at all! Do you have any more clues for us? Spouses of any of the children? Places? I found an Eva Jane Hadley in Quaker records in Ohio, but she would be at least a generation younger. Do you know if John B. had any previous marriages, he was 36 when he married Eva. Are you certain of the marriage date? It seems unusual that they would have no children for 10 years and then every 2 years for twenty years. Please excuse the interrogation. ;-) I just get excited when I find a Kersey family this large that I haven't seen before. #22. Kersey Discussion - from Hck1031@aol.com

Date: Mon, 1 Nov 1999 14:33:24 EST From: Hck1031@aol.com Subject: Kersey Discussion Hi , Due to illness and two surgeries I have been an on again off again group member. My name is Harold Kersey from the lineage of John[1633-?] John [?-?] William [1720-1764] Amos[1750-1835] Isaac[1788-1831] Henry[1812-1892] Isaac [1843-1926] Robert (Otis) [1881-1955] and myself Harold [1928- ] . We have two children: Patricia-1953 & Robert-1956 and one grandson [by Robert] Noah-1979. My questions for today are: Does anybody have a fairly good researched date of birth and death for John #2 and his wife Lois Harris. In my 15 years of research I have seen all the way from 1670 to 1700 for John and Lois for a birth date and really nothing for a date of their death. I am wondering why we have such a vague history on John #2 and a pretty good history on his father John #1? [But would also like a date of death for him] I am inclined to go along with the vicinity of 1670 as the birth date for John #2 because if William[1720-1764] is the youngest [and I have read in quite a few different research areas, where John and Lois had as many as 12 off springs.] then 1670 is a lot more feasible than 1700 for his [John's] birth date. My other question is: Is there any research showing that John #1 or John #2 was ever in the Quaker faith or was William the first one? Did any of the other children of John #2 enter into the Quaker faith? That's enough for now! I'll be waiting to see if anybody has any answers! Harold Kersey--Lexington, KY.

Kidd. He married her about 1840, in Kanawha Co., (W)VA, most likely. And he died before 1850 in Kanawha Co., also. Some early marriages of Kanawha Co., (W)VA got destroyed and theirs is not on file at all. Anna R. Kidd was the yuongest daughter of Jesse Kidd and Nancy Clark of Fluvanna Co., VA. I also note that there was a Edward Kersey who married to Nancy Kidd, 1780 in Fluvanna Co., VA. This Nancy Kidd may have been the sister of Jesse Kidd. Edward Kersey (who died bef. 1850 in Kanawha) and Anna R. Kidd had the following children; 1. Cynthia Kersey b. abt 1840, Kanawha, m. John Cook, 1856, Kanawha Co., (W)VA. 2. Lucinda Frances Kersey b. abt. 1841, Kanawha, m. Richard Lewis Pauley, 1859, Kanawha Co., (W)VA. 3. Nancy Emaline Kersey b. abt 1845, Kanawha. 4. Garland Vincent Kersey b. abt 1850, Kanawha, m. Louisa Adaline Loftis, 1869, Kanawha Co., WV. This is what I have on this Edward Kersey line and the generations follow. I don't know of any of them going to GA. And I don't know if the ones that ended up in GA was related to these or not. I know that the son here named Garland Vincent Kersey sometimes spelled his name Garland Vinson Kersey, and I often times wondered if Vincent/Vinson could've been a surname. There were alot of Edward and Garland Kerseys. And I have seen the marriage of the Kerseys that you have in question, and wondered if there is a connection. Darlena Kidd Harmon
