From: Joyce Kersey Karr To: Kersey List Sent: Saturday, November 27, 1999 7:39 AM Subject: Comments needed. While sorting through some miscellaneous KERSEY material, letters and notes, I ran across the following question which was written to me from another genealogist a number of years ago: "Who were the original KERSEY's in GA. Especially those in Emanuel Co area? I'm referring to Thomas b ca1784; John b1780's; James; Richard G b 1809-10; Thomas b1809; and Wright b1806. I would guess they were brothers who came from NC (Guilford Co area) and their children." Anyone have any comments? Joyce Kersey Karr

It was the custom to name for family members so if anyone has similar names in their Kearsey family, please let me know. There doesn't seem to be much flow on this list. Come on people! Date: Sat, 4 Dec 1999 09:15:07 -0600 From: "Joyce Kersey Karr" <joycekersey@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: Kersey Fw: Comments needed. Hi everyone, Cathy asked the following question: "How does Joyce come up with her idea about them being brothers from Guilford County NC?" I didn't come up with the idea. As I stated in my previous e-mail, this was a question presented to me by another genealogist quite a number of years ago. I was wondering if anyone else had been working on this theory and if they had any definitive answers to the question. My earliest KERSEY ancestor was John Kersey, Sr. who was born about 1783/84 in NC. He married Nancy (some say her maiden name was Fowler) ca 1808. I have wondered if John Kersey, Sr. may have been married twice. His first three children were born between 1809 and 1811 (approximately) and his last three were born between 1825 and 1831. This is a gap of about 14 years between the two groups of children. I would welcome any comments or other insights into this John Kersey, Sr. Thanks to you all for keeping this discussion alive by your comments and questions and a special thanks to Marv for his diligence in posting our "little offerings". Unfortunately, I haven't ever seen any evidence to establish a link. :-( A possible connection of the Lumbee Indians to the lost Roanoke Colony was mentioned in this list a year or so ago. I thought that might be a handy way to explain miscellaneous unconnected bands of Kerseys popping up here and there. But I found a web page with the list of Roanoke colonists at http://www.primenet.com/~langford/places/va587002.htm. Alas, no Kerseys. Marv millerm@halcyon.com http://www.halcyon.com/millerm
