Date: Sat, 8 Jan 2000 13:06:45 EST From: HTC113@aol.com Subject: Re: Walter Kersey Dear Marv: This is reference to the person who was seeking information on a Walter Kersey. There is a Walter Kersey age 30 born in Ark, listed in the 1900 census of IZARD COUNTY with a wife Elgira? or Elvira age 26 and daughter Sarah, age 6, son Ames age 4, and a daughter May with an NR for age. Then in the 1920 census of Independence Co, Ark, there is a Walter Kersey age 39 with a wife name of Rocksy age 34 with a step son Carl Hutchins age 9 and son, Paul age 5 and son Dempy age 9 months. It appears to me that this Walter has lost his wife and family through divorce or death and has remarried to Rocksy (Hutchins) Kersey because of the stepson, Carl. Also living in the 1870 census, there is a Hiram Kersey age 64 with wife Annie age 54 and a son age 5 There is a John Kersey born in Tenn, age 34 born in Tenn with a wife Sullie? age 21 with a daughter age 2. This would make me believe that John is the son of Hiram. Looking back at the 1870 census there is Hiram age 53 with a person living with him by the name of Henry? born in KY, and a daughter Mary age 2. I would conclude that Hiram is the same person living in the Fulton Co. Ark in 1870 and 1880. Fulton, IZARD, AND INDEPENDENCE Is in the upper part of Ark and in the center. I hope that this will help the person who was researching Walter Kersey Troy in Tulsa

Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2000 10:49:12 EST From: TNchild@aol.com Subject: Kersey/Housewright Sir, Rebecca Wilhelm was married to Elijah Kersey on September 22, 1862 and from this union, Elijah, Jr. born September 22, 1862 and David born September 2, 1860. Elijah age 25, enlisted March 17, 1862 at Camp Ford, KY in the 1st TN Cavalry Reg, USA. He died of typhoid fever at Cumberland Gap August 14, 1862. On September 6, 1865, Rebecca Kersey and William R. Housewright born 1846, son of James and Malinda Huckleby Housewright, grandson of John and Marthat "Patsy" Bouler Housewright, were married. William R. at age 18 enlisted October 12, 1863 in Rogersville, TN in the 1st TN Lt Art, USA. William R. told his mother "I have come home to die". Shortly after his marriage, he was walking down the street in Rogersville, TN, when a man dressed in women's clothes walked up to him and killed him. It is believe he died because he fought for the USA, since this part of TN was more for the CSA. Rebecca's great granddaughter has done extensive research on the Kersey's in Hawkins County. Her name is Regina Koger, her e-mail is RKoger@usit.net. Regina is connected to the Housewrights on both sides of her family. Rebecca and William had no children. William's half brother, Joseph, is were Regina and I connect. Regina's great grandfather, Elcany John, and my great grandfather, John Wiley, were brothers. We are researching the Housewright name. Elcany and John Wiley were Joseph's sons. I hope this helps and if I can be of further service, let me know. Gladys Owens gladysowens@hotmail.com

I attended school there in 1943-44 and although I never met him [ my older brother did] I was asked many times if I was a relative of his. I always said no but now realize that I probably was distant kin. Do you know if this Veirling Kersey had a son also named Veirling? It's a very uncommon name. Just inquisitive!
