Page 527 1830 census, Houston County (pg 290) has Bannister Kearsey(sp?) with one female 20-30, one male under 5, 2 females under 5. 1831, Jan 28, Bannister purchased lot 110 (202.5 acres) Houston Co from Mordecai Johnson, $200, pg 143/145 1831, Feb 2, Bannister (Kerzy) sold lot 110 to Bryant Daugherty for $200 1834, Jul 31, Bannister (Kerzy, Kearsey, Kersey) sold lot 110 in 12st Dist Houston Co to Aaron Stricklin. (No I don't know how he sold the same lot twice) 1837, 9 Oct, Bannister (Kearzy) witnessed the sale of lot 111, Houston Co, by John Lawhon to William Coulson. Land granted to Lawhon by Gov Gilmer in 1830. PS: Lawhon is the family name of Banister's first wife Nancy.

Do you realize how many different ways that Kersey was spelled? I think I have my work cut out for me on my line. I have been unable to find him (Stephen) before 1850 under Kersey, so I have to try all the different ways to spell it. I did find, on another of my lines, a completely different spelling. I was looking for Justiss, Justice..I found my mothers' ggGrandmother buried under Jesters???? Beats me how that happpened! Nothing is out of the realm of possiblities, I guess! :-) Janas

My grandfather's brother was William E. Nagel. He was born November 27, 1868 in Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa. In 1928 he was living in Port Angeles, Washington. He died August 27, 1945 Clark Co. Hospital, Vancouver, Wa. He lived in Washougal, Wa. and was buried in Washougal Cemetery. The informant on the death certificate was Mrs. Freida Kersey from Camas, Wa. Later I was going through some greeting/Christmas cards that my Grandma had and found correspondences with Freida and Clark Kersey. William never married. I've never know why William went to Washington. I would love to know the relationship with him and the Kersey's. It could be as simple as he roomed at their home and they were friends. But my Grandmother must have known them for them to keep cooresponding or to have started in the first place. My Grandfather was George Nagel and their mothers maiden name was Peters. Just hoping to find any information on William that I can. Thanks for sending me the link to your website, I will spend some time there. I do have cemetery records of the county that are up to date and marriage records up to about 1900. We have 1860 and 1870 census and the 1880 census is online on our home page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcoryel/ Also at that site the 1884 tax roll is sometimes helpful. We also have Coryell County Families with stories of the families that have descendants here. I have no record of there being a tombstone for a Kersey. There is not a Kearsey/Kersey on the 1860 census in 1870 there is: Precinct 5, Post Office Gatesville #107-107 Kearsey, George 53 m w Farm Laborer $200 TN Margaret 48 f w Keeping house TN Mary Jane 24 f w AR Andrew 23 m w AR Virginia 16 f w AR Milton 13 m w TX Elgin 9 m w TX Fanny 3 f w TX In the "Coryell County Families" There is a story, page 387 of "Martin Family" The story says "Married in Union Co. We don't know for a certainty that George Kersey was her brother, but he most probably was and had preceeded her to Coryell County by ten years." This is the only mention of Kersey in the book. Is more information available from these land records? He also possibly died in Coryell County about 1881 If it is possible to do these searches I will much appreciate it. From: Karen Hutchison To: Marv Miller Sent: Tuesday, February 08, 2000 9:39 PM Subject: B.W. Weatherly Marv, All that I have on B. W. Weatherly was that his name was Bryon W. Weatherly/Weatherby (I have found it both ways). One of the children of James Lindley Kersey and Lydia Ellen Frazier that you mentioned was Estella Jane Kersey, she was my ggrandmother, I had the pleasure of knowing her and she was a wonderful woman. James Lindley and Lydia Frazier Kersey had 10 children, below is all that I have on them: James Lindley Kersey (Carter, Thomas, William, John, John) was born 1838 in Salem, Henry Co., IA, and died in Bangor, IA. He married 7 Apr 1866 Salem, Henry Co., IA., to Lydia Ellen Frazier born 4 Apr 1844 Salem, Henry Co., IA., d. 1910 Bangor, IA.7 Apr 1866 in Salem, d/o Thomas Frazier and Ruth McCracken. Their children: 1. William Bond Kersey b. 1867 2. Ruth Abigail Kersey b. 1869 d. 1916, marr. Sherman Dudley b. 1862 d. 1929 Both Ruth and Sherman are buried at Hillside Cemetery, Vera, OK 3. Anna Mae Kersey 4. Gideon Frazier Kersey 5. Alva Carter Kersey b. 1876 6. Vincent James Kersey b. 1878 7. Estella Jane Kersey b. 22 Jul 1880 Union, IA., d. 7 Jul 1978 Anaheim, California marr. 28 Jul 1900 Marshalltown, Marshall Co., IA., Francis Morrison Jones b. 26 May 1874 Waukee, IA., d. 27 Jan 1960 Garden Grove, Orange Co., California, s/o Jasper Newton Jones and Margaret Ann Trueblood, have no other info on the Jones line. Estella and Francis also had 10 children, they had to move from IA., to California because Grandpa's health wasn't good, if they would have stayed in IA., he would have been dead in 6 months, so they started from IA., down thru OK and that was where my grandparents met and got married. 8. Mabel Claire Kersey marr. Bryon Weatherby 24 Nov 1898 Bangor, Marshall Co., IA 9. Harlan Allen Kersey 10. Glenn Fred Kersey Marv, some of these relatives I have sources to get the info but so far haven't. There is a big Kersey reunion coming up in August, that will be the descendants of James Lindley and Lydia Ellen Frazier Kersey. I'm hoping at that time that I can go and that I come back with all sorts of info. Hope that this has helped. Her name was Fannie Kersey who was married to John Kersey. Fannie Kersey was applying for the roll number under her mothers maiden name of Sarah Shipman. Sarah was married to John Hightower. They were living in Craighead Co. township of Monette, Ark. She has 2 children by the name of Ida May Lawson and Finis William Lawson and a married daughter by the name of Oma Elizabeth Hicks. John and Fannie Kersey has one daughter by the name of Katie Launa Kersey born Aug 14, 1899. Fannie Kersey answered to question #9 To what tribe of Indians does he or she belong? and she answered Chickasaw. This application was made Aug 10, 1907. This is the only Indian application that I can find out of Ark. I hope that this will help the person who was seeking this information. Troy in Tulsa

To get the information you want out of the digest, I would save the page to a word processor and then edit out the parts you don't want. #33. Kersey list- Kersey history book. Karen-Iowa reunion and discussion. - from Hck1031@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 14:37:47 EST From: Hck1031@aol.com Subject: Kersey list- Kersey history book. Karen-Iowa reunion and discussion. I am very sorry but due to a medical problem I have been off line for over a week and so will try to answer and ask some questions that accumulated in my mail while I was away. To all those wanting to purchase one of my Kersey history books: The book I am presently about to send to the printer is about 75% pictures, family history and family stories handed down over the last one hundred years of my immediate family starting with my parents Robert (Otis) 1881-1955 and Jessie Karnes Kersey 1888-1967 and the eight sons they raised [of which I am the seventh] and the four generations of families us sons brought into this world. The other 25% is of the Kersey generations preceding them starting in 1650 when John Kersey #1 came to America from Scotland. So I do not believe this book would be of too much interest [or help] to the rest of the general Kersey population. But, [be the Good Lord willing] I plan to take that 25% and with some more research, put together another more general Kersey History book excluding a lot of the later family pictures [etc.] that I can distribute to some genealogy libraries and any one else that might want a copy. [ Such as all you fine cousins on the Kersey list] I hope to have this book available by this fall. A lot depends on my health. I will let you know when it is available. To Karen: Thanks for all the info on my line of Kerseys from Amos on down. I had a big percent of it but I did get some dates I didn’t have. I do have some questions: You have down as Amos 1750-1831 and his son Isaac 1788-1871 as having died in Hendricks and Randolph Counties Indiana. [IN.] respectively. Are you sure it’s Indiana? I have down North Carolina and I know Amos is buried with his second wife Elizabeth in the Quaker cemetery in High Point [Guilford Co.] NC. I have been to their grave site. But I could not find Isaac and wife Sarah’s grave site so maybe they all went with the Quaker migration to Indiana in the early 1800s that they told me about at the Quaker College in Guilford County, NC. But I know my great grandfather Henry 1812-1892 [ Isaac & Sarah’s first born] stayed in NC until they moved in 1850 to Appanoose County, Iowa. That brings up another question. You have Henry and Elizabeth’s first born as Beulah but no birth date. I have never seen Beulah mention with that family. I always thought my great grandfather Henry was their first born. Now as to your question about the first John Kersey in America [ of our line]. I have his birth date down as 1633 and that he came to America in 1650 at seventeen years of age. In my research I have seen this in numerous places. But I never had a birth date on son John #2. Assuming the 1694 for John #2 and 1699 for wife Lois is correct we have two problems. First John #1 would have been 61 at John #2 birth which makes me think there might be a lost generation in between. But also I have always heard that our common ancestor William 1720-1764 was John and Lois’s youngest [maybe even of a family of twelve] so that makes the 1694 and 1699 birth dates not too feasible. Just guessing I would put their birth dates in the 1670s. Do you have any confirmation on the 1694-1699 dates? Don’t get me wrong Karen, I really do appreciate your info and it sounds like you have a lot of it and I just like to compare our info and come to a feasible answer. Of course I’m sure you are aware that many Kersey genealogist of the mid1800s up to the early 1900s were saying that John #2 was the first of [our line] to come to America and that date was set around 1700. Then someone found out about John#1 and wife Johanna and things changed but some of the old dates seem to hang around. By the way that would be a good discussion subject for the Kersey list. When, where and how did John#1 and Johanna Beasley come into the picture? I have never seen any mention of them in Kersey genealogical material before 1900. Anybody got any input on this subject? Karen, thanks for the information on the Kersey reunion at Marshaltown, IA. If I can work things out [and the Good Lord cooperates] I may try to make it this year. Harold Kersey

#34. Kersey list- E-town Kersey reunion-Dan - from Hck1031@aol.com

Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 15:04:27 EST From: Hck1031@aol.com Subject: Kersey list- E-town Kersey reunion-Dan Dan, I was not aware of the Kersey reunion in Elizabethtown. Although I have lived in Kentucky for 39 years I am not a native and am not close kin to any of the many Kerseys living in Kentucky but have been in contact with a few from two or three different lines. Is the reunion in E-town all three days of the Labor Day week end or just one? If just one--which one--Saturday, Sunday or Monday? Do they usually display a family tree showing which family branch this reunion represents? As I said above I know there are three or four different branches [lines] living in Kentucky. The one in the Southeastern part [Corbin area] one of the daughters tells me, emigrated from Virginia or West Virginia. One family here in Lexington is [I think] descended from John the Patriot who rode with Col. Daniel Boone in the Revolutionary War and settled in Nicholas County before part of them emigrated, with John, on to Boone Co.,Indiana. Please have someone enlighten me some more on the reunion. Sounds interesting! Harold Kersey

My father name was Robert Otis but he went by Otis all the time. He was born in Gage Co. Nebraska [1881] and they moved to Northeastern Kansas in the late 1800s and he lived his life out there. I know of no other Otis in our family tree. Harold

I have been working on a room for the house, and I am so slow, that I told my son that I will have it finished by 2010. Ha Ha I will be glad to send you a copy of the 2 Kersey's who applied for the Cherokee Indian Roll and the Fanny Kersey of Ark. This Fanny was married to a John Kersey and Doris Buffum is saying that it is her side of the family. I made a copy of the application and I will be sending it to her this week. I will have to get another copy printed off and then I will get all 3 of the applications into the mail to you. By the way, I finally got to me this James Thompson of Howe, OK. He is about 70 years old and teaches school in Pocola, OK. Pocola is real close to Spiro, where I grew up. He is very slow in getting things to me, so when I can get myself together, I am going down to Spiro and meet with him again unless he comes up to Tulsa to visit his niece's. It will take me a couple of weeks to get this to you, so please be patient with me on this. Talk to you later. Troy in Tulsa

The old gentlemen is my gggrandfather, Asher Kersey 1807-1902. There are a number of folks on the list either descended from Asher or related to that line. The coat of arms came up early on in the list discussions. There are several versions, all roughly the same. You can see them by selecting "Kersey Pictures" from the TKM web page.
