Here's "The Shop" as you can see it is kinda messy. I will get around to better organizing it--one day. Anyway, of interest is the 4' X 12' worktable in the center. Here's where I got the idea: http://www.ch601.org/tools/Visio-12%20foot%20work%20table.pdf Below is how I made it.
These photos should give you a good idea of how it was done. I cut (2) 4'x8'x3/4" inch ply into 6" strips on the large panel saw at The Home Depot. The Home Depot Saw would not cut accurately accept as a rip cut (i.e. with the blade laying over horizontal, feeding the ply into the machine--clear as mud?) Since the strips are only 8 feet long (and for extra support) I screwed them to 8 foot 2"x2"'s staggering all of the joints. So what you have, is an 8 foot strip butted up against a 4 foot strip on each side of some 2"x2"'s--all staggered.
Also, the top is in two pieces so plan for a support at the break The piece below is the 4 foot section screwed into place (you can see the 4'x8' peice on the top right corner--partially in the picture).
This should give you some idea of how tall it is. The height should be good for one of those adjustable, rolling, office type chairs. Don't ya think?
