I am building an experimental aircraft. NO It's not radio controlled or a toy (everyone thinks that at first). It is a real airplane. Yes . . .I do plan on flying it! No . . .I'm not crazy.
About my project: Thanks for visiting my site! I will be updating it regularly so bookmark it and check back often. I am in the process of building an Experimental Aircraft from plans. This means I am working strictly from the drawings which I purchased from aircraft designer Chris Heintz. I began with 26 sheets of Aluminum 4’X12’, in thicknesses ranging from 16/1000ths of an inch to 63/1000ths of an inch. After cutting, bending, drilling, deburring, etc . . . I’ll have a real airplane! I chose the Zodiac CH601XL for its simplicity. It is amazingly simple yet is capable of flying cross country. I should be able to fly over 600 miles and still have the regulation 30 min of fuel in the tanks (with passenger). About my site: The buttons above are the main pages to my site. Additionally I have a few new pages of interest to builders. If you want to see a good method for building the required 4'x12' worktable go here . Also from time to time we (the Zenith aircraft builders community) find problems with the drawings or dimensions of parts etc. mostly due to updates and modifications. Here is one such problem I ran into. Also, here is an orientation page for new builders. About me: I live in Nashville Tennessee. I have many hobbies that I no longer have time for since building this plane has taken over my life. I am an Aerospace student at Middle Tennessee State University. Before making up my mind to enroll in school, I spent several years looking for a new career--after struggling with the realities of the technology field I was in. During that time I began to explore a dream. I have always wanted to become a private pilot and own my own plane. This dream has always seemed out of reach for someone in my income bracket. Until I realized that I could utilize my proclivity for doing things myself (that's a nice way of saying thriftiness) to achieve my goal. In other words, I could build my own plane! After starting the build, I found myself drawn towards school. It probably has lots to do with my natural curiosity (nice way of saying Adult ADD). Once I began to learn about building planes, I wanted to know more. Attending college is also something I have always wanted to do (as I did not do so after High School). So here I am . . . giving it "the-old-college-try" . . . literally. Hit counter
