New carpet upstairs. Thank you, Arthur! (I didn't get pic of stairs after carpet was fully installed. Several doors need trimming so they will clear carpet.)

Apr 30, 2007

Lots of changes in recent weeks, just no pictures.

Feb 11, 2007

The brown stairs are now white (no one really liked that brown paint on the stairs and second floor anyway). Drywall installed on one wall in half bath. I put some white paint on kitchen walls to see how it looked. I think painting these walls is the way to go. Also removed part of old vinyl floor in kitchen.

It's been a long, long time since I've updated this page. We moved to Baltimore last August and I haven't done much at the Chincoteague house since then. I was down to the house this weekend and worked on the half bath off the main floor bedroom. It was in poor condition with lots of water damage to two layers of flooring (between which I found a section of a 1947 edition of a Philadelphia newspaper). I knew all of this flooring had to be removed so I could determine the extent of the water damage. The pics below show the new CPVC plumbing I installed for the bath and the 2x8s I used to strengthen the damaged floor joists. Still need to finish the subfloor and install toilet drain and ceramic tile floor.

July 16, 2006

We have a bamboo floor! Andy, Mike and I installed 20 boxes of a great bamboo floor this weekend. It really brightens the rooms a lot. The door to the first floor bedroom has been framed and installed. The rear deck and outside shower are done.

July 9, 2006

Pamela, Christy, Melissa, Levi, Charlie, Oliver and Kevin spent the July 4 week at the beach house and managed to have some fun in between painting, sweeping, cutting, sanding, drilling, patching, etc. etc. Chas and his crew made good progress with the upstairs bedrooms. The doors and all moldings are in. The rooms are both fully usable now. The bathroom is coming along (toilet and sink work.. .shower to be built soon). The sunroom is usable and furnished (still need a finished floor here though). We have a nice walkway in front of the house and a deck (with outside shower) is being built in the back yard. I've talked to a local landscaper and asked him to put together some ideas for the house. Hope to hear back from him soon.

June 25, 2006

Kyle made his FIRST trip to the house this weekend. He took these pics with his new digital camera (that has spiffy fish eye lens attachment). There is a lot of yellow paint on sunroom and living room walls. Kyle, Andy, and I gave bushes in back yard a big trimming. Kyle cleaned up the yard right at the rear door. The garage is PACKED now.

June 4, 2006

The second upstairs bedroom now has paint and there are two BIG openings between the sun room and living room. This was a great idea... thank you Arthur! The upstairs bathroom walls are just about ready for priming and painting.

May 29, 2006

Paint (and lots of it) is now on the walls & ceilings of the upper floor. I sure hope everyone likes yellow. I thought the color would be lighter than it is. Oh well. The ceilings have been painted with ceiling white paint. The sunroom is looking somewhat destroyed since Perry has removed part of what used to be the exterior of the house but is now a wall of the sunroom. A 12 foot wide opening is to be made between the window and doorway. A lot of drywall (not pictured) and insulation are ready to be installed in sunroom. Same story with the front door... just waiting to be installed. Good progress in the bathroom... the shower faucet is installed, the toilet flange was cut to fit properly, and all of the drywall is installed and ready to be finished.

May 20, 2006

Levi joined me on the trip to Chincoteague this weekend. We contined to work on the drywall and sunroom wiring. All of the windows are installed in sunroom... it looks great.

May 14, 2006

Cousin Mike was in town from CA and wanted to see Chincoteague for the first time in 32 years so he made the trip with me this weekend. He got a LOT done in upstairs bathroom... the subfloor is in, most of the drywall is installed, the shower pan was installed, and the water heater mounted on the wall. Thank you Mike! Andy came by mid day on Sat to help sand and prime the drywall in upstairs left bedroom and stairway. It looks really good... there are only a few areas that need small drywall compound touchups. All of the windows on first floor of main part of house have been replaced. Perry says the sunroom windows will be installed this week. We made a lot of progress and had a good time.

May 1, 2006

Great progress on front sun room. Shortly after I took the pics, the sunroom subfloor was installed. Andy and I ran wire through sunroom today. We wired it for celing fans on either side of the room and outlets and wall switches as needed. A window A/C unit is to be installed under window on right side of sunroom. We made more progress with drywall finishing on upstairs floor. No progress made in bathroom area. Perry said he would get another plumber to finish it. All windows on ground floor of main part of the house are to be replaced on Sat May 6. Sunroom windows will be installed in next two weeks. I cut the grass for the first time (it was LONG too).

Apr 16, 2006

Drywall finished on almost all walls of second floor & hallway (THANK YOU ANDY for the big help!), front sunroom now framed. (Thanks Sarah for stopping by... do you really read this web page?)

Apr 2, 2006

Drywall installed on almost all walls of second floor, upstairs re-wiring completed, bathroom subfloor in place, (corner shower kit to be delivered in a week), front room completed removed, foundation being built, damaged wood under front doorway, pic of house across the street shows type of roof (a "hip roof") that Perry will install on our sunroom.

Mar 19, 2006

Drywall install on most of second floor ceiling, whole house fan installed and wired, demo underway on front room (what happened to the front door?), not sure what the number "104" means... it is not the house number, this is what part of a ceiling looks like after the home improvement guy puts his foot through it from above (luckily, no injuries)

Mar 5, 2006

Drywall installed on almost all of the ceiling in one upstairs bedroom, great progress on bathroom rough-in (thank you Mike!), front sidewalk and brick steps demolished (never especially liked them ... I think a flagstone walkway would look nicer.)

Feb 19, 2006

Upstairs bedroom closet and bathroom framing almost done, bathroom floor removed (so plumbing for shower, sink, and toilet could be installed), water shutoff valve installed in front yard, pipe to septic tank replaced and vented up rear of house (thank you Jester Plumbing!)

Feb 14, 2006

Tree stump in front yard has been ground down, small stumps from bushes removed.

Jan 22, 2006

New water heater working! all furniture, etc. removed from both upstairs bedrooms (and stored in garage), ceilings now removed in both upstairs bedrooms, misc pics of attic, outlet and switch boxes installed in bedrooms, lights installed in attic, motion activated light installed over garage door

Jan 15, 2006

Exterior painted, flashing install on chimneys, big mess in dump trailer (as usual), plaster removed from bedroom ceiling (no pics)

Nov 27, 2005

Insulation installed in upstairs bedroom, MANY nails removed from studs (real 2x4s by the way)

Misc interiors shots (new 100 amp, 20 circuit box halfway installed)

Pics of the crawl space under house (how many of these pipes will freeze and burst this winter? Hhhmmmm.....)

Nov 12, 2005

New roof installed on house & garage, all bushes/shrubs cut down, interior plaster walls in upstairs bedroom and stairway demolished

August 20, 2005

First time we saw the house.
