Typically, during the July week at Champlain, we get rain,
rain, and more rain. This gives lots of time for sitting
and watching the rain. This year was different, there was
not a day of rain. That meant there wasn't much time for
operating ham radio. A few contacts on 40m SSB were made
with the FT-817, but not much time was spent on that activity.
update! Burton Island, VT
(VT020L) is now (hopefully) qualified. We made 49 contacts
over a few hours of operating, see our
island log here.
Pictures of the island operations below.
A second expedition specifically to Burton Island VT20L is
scheduled for August 31st to September 3rd. New antennas
are made, tuned, and tested for this adventure. Operations
may be during day and/or night. If you need any of these
islands or need a specific band (160m to 70cm) and would like to
setup a schedule feel free to send us an
email.
Additionally, if you need other islands in the area, we may be
able to activate other islands. Again, feel free to drop
us an email.
A new higher gain collinear antenna has been built and tested
for the activation. A 7Ah sealed lead-acid battery (for
alarm systems) has been purchased to supplement the NiCad
batteries in the FT-817.

We will not have internet access during that week, but will
attempt to put our longer periods of operation on the dx
spotter.
