The Royal Oak Republican Women's Club

Serving Royal Oak since 1938

The Royal Oak Women's Club was formed in 1938 at the home of Mrs. George A. Dondero at 427 Seventh street, Royal Oak, Michigan. The first meeting was conducted by Mrs. Bart Norton, President of the Oakland County Federation of Republican Women.

Officers elected on this most memorable day were: Mrs. Sidney Light, President, Mrs. Fred Linscheid and Mrs. Chas. Benning.

The speaker at this first meeting was Mrs. Edwin Krieghoff, The President of the Grosse Pointe Republican Club, and a very active organizer for the party throughout the Detroit area. Mrs. George Rogers, the president of the Michigan Federation of Rupublican Women also spoke. There have been fourteen presidents from 1938 to 1960.1

Since that time, there have been many more presidents and officers. Some of the important issues considered by this group have included: neutrality prior to World War II, women's activities during WWII, women's viewpoints in politics, foreign affairs, politics in government, living under the law, and honoring our distinguished women judges serving Oakland county.

In 1960, the club voted to join the newly organized council of Republican women of Oakland County. They also voted to remain affliated with the National and State Federations of Republican Women. The club has rallied behind many worthy candidates over the years and has held programs highlighting the issues of the day for the public and it's members.
