Royal Oak Nature Society Presentation, August 16, 2005 at the M/M Senior Center

Overview and purpose: The RO Republican Women’s club has agreed to support the Tenhave Woods Project with liaison, publicity and refreshments. This task force met to discuss all of the activities required to show off the RO Nature Society’s efforts to improve the pond area in Tenhave Woods.

Name of the Project: DRAGONFLY POND PROJECT at Tenhave Woods by consensus of those members present.

Background/Plans: Members will work on August 28th at 10am, to clear the fence area closest to the pond, so that the fence can be opened there. In September, on two different days, Mountain Top Tree Service will come in to take down marked trees, to clear the arboreal canopy over the pond. Later on in October, dirt will be excavated in a specified area (map available) and piled in a certain area to provide an overlook platform to view the pond. The excavation days are currently planned for October 21st /22nd ( Fri/ Sat) or in case of rain, Oct 28th/29th. Chuck Gaidica has agreed to give a live weather report on Friday for the 5:30 -6:30pm news show on Channel 4 at the Tenhave Woods Pond site.

Bob Muller, Naturalist, will be the spokesman with Chuck G. for the interview. If there is a second opportunity, Bob will find an Eagle Scout who can describe the scouts’ role in the project. Chuck Gaidica will bring a TV truck, T-shirts.

RO Nature Society will provide fliers, applications to the Society, a Banner, other exhibits, written statements about the history of the organization, people to help. Helen C. will provide historical documents to Judy L., Muriel V. and Joan L. for publicity/news use.

RO Republican Women’s Club will provide liaison, publicity, refreshments, support. Joan L. contacted Greg Walters of WROK to run announcements of the event, and perhaps get an agreement to make a documentary. She also contacted Fire Chief Strehlke to provide a vehicle in case of fire, etc. Joan contacted Thomas Hoover, City Manager to get an OK for the event.

RO City Representative, Greg Rassel, Director of Parks and Recreation will support with tables, chairs, barrels, etc.
