Bridger's Folly is the name given to the hydropressure tube system that
runs throughout most of the ship. It serves as Darwin's living space
while onboard.
The Reactor and Battery Compartments as well as the Engine and Torpedo Rooms and
the Docking/Launch Bay are all at least two levels high or have access on two decks.
That is why they appear on the directories for two decks each.
The room is wood paneled, for the most part. One wall has a couple of windows into the hydropressure tubes, the wall slants into the room underneath the tubes, up to the ceiling (sort of like a room in an attic). There is a long, low bar/set of shelves, about waist high & maybe 10 maybe more feet long, underneath the tube windows. It has 2 shelves in it, filled with books in a bit of a disarray. Each shelf has a bar across the front to keep things in while the boat is underway. The table has a brass reading lamp on top and an old-fashion, wood case clock (?). On the left side of the bar, there is a brownish/ reddish kitchen-type chair, that seems to be upholstered in reddish leather. To the right, a table (shape?), with boat status display screens on the three walls of an alcove behind it. The wall with the tubes stops, with a small section of wall coming into the room before going on again, to form the alcove. The captain's bunk is inset in another alcove, there is a picture of an old-time (18th cent?) wind sailing ship above the bed.
Door hatch is about a yard and a half from one corner. There are steps and a handrail because the level of the floor is about a yard or two from the corridor (how many steps are there?) On the opposite wall from the door, there is a pair of instrument banks, electronic looking lights blinking, little levers and controls. There are two lockers beside that, the one on the right is Lucas', the one on the left, Tony's. Lucas has a mirror on his locker door, Tony has a couple of pictures, looks like girls in bikinis. Beside the steps, up against the wall, there is a small (about shoulder high) closet cubby with a set of shelves above it. Since there is a hydropressure tube running against this wall, the shelves slant in with the wall. There appear to be 3 shelves to it, each smaller than the previous one. They appear to be full of books. The bunks are against the wall on the left as you come in the room, underneath the hydropressure tube. Lucas has the top bunk, Tony has a reading lamp under Lucas' head and pin-ups and photos on the wall. The ladder is about 2/3 of the way down the from the head of the bunks.
There is a desk opposite the bunks, holding Lucas' computer, a cup
containing pens and pencils, remains of plates of food, crumpled up
wads of paper, etc. Beside the computer is a set of 3 shelves
containing electronics and instrument parts.
