I began my life in the spring of 1987, but nobody really knows where or how. I was turned over to the animal shelter when I was just 6 or 7 weeks old, and the person who took me there didn't tell the staff when my birthday really was--I decided to lay claim to May 15th. One day late in June, a family came to the shelter to look for a kitten. I could hear them talking, and they sounded nice enough. There were two adult humans, a boy, and a girl. I managed to make it clear to them that there simply was no other appropriate feline for them--they were thankfully quick on the uptake, and they up and took me to their house. I was pleased...until I saw that I had a canine brother! As it happens, we became reasonable friends in the way of curmudgeons. Sunshine was a very old and mellow hound so it wasn't difficult to keep him in his place. Until he died, in June 1989, we enjoyed a peaceful co-existence. A few months prior to his death, we added yet another dog to my environment--can you believe I wasn't consulted on the matter??? This interloper was Cricket. She is quite the noisy, rowdy little thing but (we don't let this get around) she is also very endearing. We do not, however, even discuss Shadow. I'm old now, and in failing health. In November 1996 I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and the following year the veterinary human discovered that my kidneys are failing. The mother has performed a number of uncomfortable and undignified procedures upon my person. If these things hadn't resulted in extending my life, you may be assured that I would never have permitted them. On the whole, though, I suppose she's done her best--I do feel pretty well all things considered. I just wish she'd quit taking me to the vet to have blood drawn! ![]() On April 3, 1999, Snuggles lost his battle with his illnesses and was helped to the Rainbow Bridge. Rest well, little curmudgeon. You will be missed. ![]() ![]() Thank you Nancy and Bo, for this award in memory of Snuggles ![]()
