Trip to Wisconsin

On October 30th I flew to Green Bay to attend and participate in the annual conference of the Wisconsin Library Association. The WLA Support Staff Section invited me to come out and speak on the first day of the conference, and I was really glad I accepted. The trip was great, the people were wonderful, and even the weather was very nice.

My talk was in the afternoon of the 31st, Halloween Day. To mark the day, I brought along some Halloween treats for the audience. The chocolate seemed to go over well with everyone. And my talk seemed to be well received.

This was my first visit to Wisconsin, and in planning for the trip, I allowed an extra day for some sightseeing. I rented a car on the 1st and headed north to Door County. This had been described to me as Wisconsin's Cape Cod, and there were definite similarities. What no one could have predicted, though, was that the weather would have been so nice for this time of year - mostly sunny with temperatures in the mid 60's!

I drove along the lake side of Door County on the way north, and the bay side on the return leg. My first stop was White Fish Bay, and took a picture looking north and another looking south. My next stop was Bailey's Harbor, where I came across a jetty going out into Lake Michigan. I went out to the end of the jetty and took another picture looking out into the lake from the jetty.

When I made my way over to the bay side of the county, my first stop was Sister Bay. As I drove south, I spotted a restaurant I had been told about, Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant. Yes, the roof is grass!

A little further down the road is Ephraim. I took one picture looking back along the shore, and another to the south and west. As you can see, the clouds had started to roll in by that time. I had a wonderful lunch at the White Gull Inn, and then headed back to Green Bay.
