Signets (the all-gold-filled variety of the
Parker 51) are often found with barrel dents. Parker 51 caps are a bit tougher
because of the inner cap and cap clutch that give the cap shell a bit of added
rigidity, but Signet barrels are not similarly reinforced. In addition to dents
on the sides, they frequently have dimples and flat spots on the end from being
dropped – another vulnerability absent from the ’51 cap.
There was an area on this barrel that I
could not completely restore – just aft of the internal threads at the mouth.
Other than that, I am pleased with the outcome; there were plenty of dents in
addition to the ones visible in the pictures below, and I got ‘em all. Grab the horizontal scroll bar and have a look.
