Parker “51” ‘Wedding Band’ Cap Name Removal

The Parker “51” cap with the frosty Lustraloy finish and the classy bright gold (not gold filled, I don’t believe) band is generally referred to as the ‘Wedding Band’ model. Because they’re steel, they are a bit tough to work on – steel is much tougher than gold fill, sterling, or solid gold.

This particular cap had a problem that went well beyond what I normally contend with. Not only was there a rather deeply engraved name, someone had clumsily attempted to scratch out that name. Of course, there was the usual assortment of dings, too.

I admit that this is an unusual case, and that the amount of time I spent on the restoration meant that I was really charging well below my standard rate, but it was a bit of a challenge, and I knew it would make a nice example here.
