| While searching for a wrecked Supercharged MR2 or a parts car I found this one for sale on XCARS Classifieds. It was located in Texas. I contacted the seller about the car and it was still up in the air whether or not he was gonna sell the car. He wanted to keep it but needed the money. My intentions were to use it for a parts car since it had 225K miles on it and had a rebuilt title. I was gonna use the engine and tranny, ECU, injectors, harness, all electronics for my turbo project and sell all the other parts on the car to make up for the money I had used to purchase the car. After a week and a half Steve, the seller, relocated to Illinois and decided he needed the money, we made the deal. Steve had told me about all the problems with the car. It would need a transmission soon since the 2nd gear synchro was going out. Steve was actually kind enough to drive the car down from Illinois and have me take him to the bus station, his choice. I was suprised when I saw the car. It came with a stack of maintenance records 3 inches thick! New everything! Ball joints, tie rod ends, clutch slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, air conditioning compressor, alternator, freshly rebuilt supercharger, new tires, new T-top seals, 15x7 American Racing Carrera wheels, Cross drilled/slotted brake rotors. Wow! And even though it had high mileage the engine ran great, actually it SCREAMED!! I love BOOST!!! I could not bring myself to tear it apart and part it out! Despite the bad red paint job, minor body dings, ugly beige interior that is fading and cracking and discolored it is a great car! Oh, and the transmission? Fixed with a gear oil change using Redline MT-90 synthetic fluid! No more bad synchro in 2nd gear!!! So now I have another MR2 to blow all my money on! Hey, if I could buy all the MR2s in the world I would! I love 'em! I guess it's a sickness :) Well, at 244K miles the crank key decided to give way breaking the Nevo pulley. After plans (and spending money on parts) to go turbo I’ve decided to concentrate on the MK1.5 project so this car is history. It’s now being parted out. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I will find another supercharged MR2 one day, they are just too much fun! |
