The basic difference between the silver patched tabby and the smoke tortie is the agouti gene (A). A female (XX) with one red gene (O) and one non-red gene (o) and at least one Inhibitor gene (I) is called "silver patched tabby" if the agouti (A) gene is present and is called "smoke tortie" if two non-agouti (a) genes are present.
