Did you know your home has alot of dangerous things for your furball to get into? Read on and learn what you can do to help protect your cute little bundle of fur! They depend on you to remove anything in harms way!

Ok, first, I'm sure we dont have to tell you about the dangers of cleaning fluids, medicines, paints, antifreeze, etc. Stuff you wouldn't want a baby to get into. Dont leave unattended even for a second. Your hairball may be drinking this stuff before you get back!

Have electrical cords accessible for kitty to chew on? You need to cover them or remove them!

You will also have to check on the toxicity of your houseplants. They love to chew on greens. Get them their own catnip plant. Go here to see a listing of plants and see whether they are safe or not...PLANTS.You will be surprised at the amount of dangerous plants they can chew on! Dont rely on placing toxic plants up high. Cats love it up there!

You also need to make sure any small items such as sewing needles, buttons, paper clips, typewriter ribbons, elastics, nails, screws, pencils etc are not within reach or they could choke and or get it caught up inside there bodies causing serious problems!

If you own a cat then never put tinsel on your Christmas tree! This is so dangerous! They love to chew on it. It will tangle up inside them and can cause a major problem! If they are lucky enough to pass it, you may find yourself being the one to fully remove this tinsel from their back ends! Not a fun task! The water under that tree needs to be barracaded from kitty trying to drink it. The water can be toxic to them! I also do not recommend having any Poinsettias in a home with cats. This could be fatal! Like those sparkley , breakable ornaments? You wont like them if kitty knocks them off the tree and cuts themselves on it or tries to eat it!

Do not leave the lid up on your potty! They may not be able to get out! Especially a kitten. If you use cleaners in your bowl, this of course, could be fatal if they drank it! If they fall in, they will be licking themselves clean later causing them to ingest these dangerous chemicals!

Dont allow kitty to play inside any type of plastic bag. They can suffocate too!

Cats love to bat around small objects. Make sure they are not small enough for them to choke on!

Never leave the stove top unattended while cooking if you have curious kittys! I'm sure we dont have to explain the possible tragedies that can occur here! Ours love to hop across the stove to get to the top of the fridge. We have since placed lots of stuff atop the fridge in hopes of deterring them. So far so good.

We never open our second floor windows high enough for kitty to jump up on the sill. The screen may pop out and its not always true, kitties land on their feet. Even if they did, they could receive serious internal injuries from the fall!

If you have young children, it may be wise to take head count on your furballs every now and then. Kids do the darndest things and you may find kitty trapped in a closet or toybox! Should this happen, you will have one scared kitty and probably a big mess to clean up behind them! Trust me on this one!

Do you leave your litter boxes in the basement? Go around and make sure their are no saws, tools, anything sharp that could harm them! Also make sure kitty can not get hurt passing by the pilot on the furnace or the blower!

Have a large fish tank? Make sure you have a secure cover on top especially if its a tall tank! Cats love to drink water out of fish tanks and if they fall in, well, you will have one scared kitty who may not be able to reach the top to get out! Luckily we haven't encountered this but they have fallen through many covers on our 10 gallon tanks. You also must be careful about having a real small fishbowl. Kitty could easily knock those off counters too causing it to shatter. If you dont learn the first time, you will the second time :(

Dont leave tipable glass items on top anything you know kitty can jump up onto. Kitty could knock them over and wind up cutting their feet in the end.

If you have sliding screen doors leading outdoors, dont under estimate kitty to figure out how to get it open. Your other kittys would probably end up following and rounding up a bunch of scared kitties can be very stressful and time consuming! We have since got a lock for ours. :(

Most of us like to have a nice blaze going in the fireplace in the winter. Kitties also like the warmth. Make sure you have a sturdy protective screen to catch those sparks!

Going to do some laundry? Like to fill it up before adding the clothes. This could be dangerous if you dont close the lid if your off doing other things! Always check the dryer for furballs to before turning it on. Especially if you stepped away and left the door open for even a second!

One of our cats loves to play in the tub. Make sure there are no dangerous items in there such as razors or aftershaves. This could be very dangerous!

Do you have a hot tub in your home? Make sure you never step out and leave the cover off. You may come back to a rather ticked off wet kitty who thought they could jump on top safely! :(

If you have a husband or children that like to dump their leftovers (which "is" rare the husband has leftovers!) into the disposal and doesnt grind it up, you take the risk of your cat sniffing out the scent and getting his head stuck down into the disposal. We have heard of this happening and is very scary! They get their head pushed through but cant get it back out! So please, grind up the food immediately!
