restricted to Africa and a small area of western India. They like mainly
savanna, grassy plains, woodlands and semidesert.They live in groups or
prides of up to 12 lionesses, 6 males and the pride's young. This is depending
upon the food supply. There is one dominant male and one dominant female in
each pride.
A lions head and body can reach up to 8 feet 2 inches and tail up to 3 feet
5 inches. They weigh in at up to 550 pounds!!!
The females aka Lioness are in charge of the hunting. They will hunt with
several other females. Even though the female brings home the kill, the
strongest male is allowed to eat first. Then the other males eat in order
of dominance.Then; the females, then the cubs. They will hunt wildebeests,
impalas, antelope, zebras, buffalo, wild pigs, and other hoofed animals.
Ok, so what do the males do? They fight for the right to mate with females
and the stronger male either kills or chases away the loser.
