The Rusty Spotted Cat lives in the forests and mountains of Sri Lanka
cat with a pale underbelly and white face markings around the eyes and
on the muzzle.  They have dark brown spots on their back, and rusty
colored spots on their underparts.  They are about the size of a
black footed cat, being around 3-7 lb.  The soles of their feet
are black.  They have a rounded head with small ovular ears set
obliquely on the top of their head.  Their eyes are huge in
comparison to their head-size.  They have a large squat body and
a very long, thick tail.

The feeding habits of the rusty spotted cat have not been studied, but
it is assumed that they eat mice, rats and birds.

The rusty spotted cat is nocturnal and spends most of its time in the
trees.  They are very territorial, but not much else is known
about their behavior in the wild.  Breeding takes place in early
spring, with the kittens usually born around April.  Their coats
are duller than the adults.  It has been said that if taken young
enough, they can make good house cats.
