The most famous of all ancient cats is the Sabertooth. Many types of
the Sabertooth lived in various parts of Asia and Europe. Then it found
its way to North America. Remains of the North American Sabertooth have
been found in the La Brea tar pits in California. The bones have been
dated at more than 10,000 years old. The Sabertooth was almost the size
of a large lion and is thought to have hunted animals like the mastodon.
Unlike what you may see on the Flintstones, this cat was no house cat!
