Cubs will accompany their mother for two years. During this time they
must learn all that they can to be able to survive on their own. Between
two and three months after birth, young cats stop suckling and begin to
eat meat. The mother will bring back prey to the den. Then she brings live
creatures, for the young cats to practice their skills at hunting prey.
Although young cats would rather play with the prey than kill it. Finally
as they get older, the mother takes them on hunting trips so they can learn
to hunt. The mother stays close. At the first sign of danger, she growls, and
they scatter and hide themselves and only come out when she calls them. They
communicate using high pitched calls, which in time mother learns to distinguish
the cry of her own young from others.
