Welcome to the Mr. Yates web site. The site will be in transition for the new course offerings for the school year of 2011-2012.
Taking a step back, the intent of this site is an orgainizational and informational too which benefits students, and allows parents and guardians to have an idea of what their students are doing in class and keep up with projects, assignments, etc.
This group of sites maintains links and resources for students to find their work and assignments, and aid with scheduling and organization. I also intend to have the sites be a forum for showcasing student work such as projects from Web Design and Advertising.

Above are some pics of me in and out of the classroom. I have been involved with David Douglas High School since January 2004. I have returned to teaching after coming from corporate America working for such companies as Portland General Electric, Visa International, MasterCard, Wells Fargo Bank, and others. I am excited to be working with students at this point in my career, as I feel I have an excellent and varied business background, and try to leverage my experiences into everything I teach.
In terms of education, I hold a B.A. in Business Administration (Marketing emphasis), a B.A.E. in Education (Business and Marketing Education emphasis), and a Masters' in Education (Curriculum and Instruction emphasis). I am endorsed by the State of Washington and Oregon to teach Business Education, Marketing Education, and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). I am additionally endorsed through a Career and Technical Professional License in Computer Technology, Administrative Services, Marketing, and Financial Services.
In March of 2007 and April 2012, I received the "Teacher of the Month" awards here at David Douglas from the National Honor Society. Thanks very much to those who voted, it means a great deal!
As seen from pictures on this site, my life-long hobby has been that of a musician. I have enjoyed writing performing music up and down the west coast. I have also been a pretty avid scuba diver in the carribean, Mexico, and Hawaii (as seen in the pictures below from Cozumel, Mexico). I am often talking with students on the subject of music, along with sports, cars, motorcycles, fishing and their jobs and interests. I get great energy from my students.

Small loans that can lift people out of poverty? Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses
in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can
"sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you've sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back. http://www.kiva.org/app.php

Lots of companies, sadly, with whom I have no affiliation.
