Grand Knight's Message Brother Knights and Families, Each fraternal year brings us new opportunities to participate in and carry on the traditions of charity, unity, fraternalism and patriotism. However, I can't help thinking that it's also time to take a more serious evaluation our attitude toward our chosen commitments to the Knights of Columbus. Let us examine how we prioritize the activities of the Knights of Columbus along with our other responsibilities? It certainly should not come before my family. My job is also a top priority, school and higher education is part of improving our value. There are the other things like scouts, little league, ballet, and gymnastics. Wow, when I rank all of these, just where does the Knights of Columbus fit ? I just can't sacrifice these important things in my life. So, I'll try to do whatever I can. But you've got to realize, it can't be too much. "I do not have all of those other important responsibilities". If that statement were absolutely correct, the only men who belong in the Knights of Columbus are "old duffs" in retirement or single guys with nothing else to do right? I mean, who else would have the time to attend all of these different meetings and ceremonies. And who else would have the time to participate in those charitable, family oriented and spiritual activities? It might surprise you to find out that many of our most active Brothers have busy family and professional lives. Their daily schedules are filled with many responsibilities So what are the priorities of those Knights who do come to meetings and participate in activities? I can tell you that they don't compare the Knights of Columbus against other obligations in their lives. They infuse the principles of the Knights of Columbus into "everything" they do. Their commitment to the Knights of Columbus complements their love of God and His church as well as their families and the sacrifices they want to offer. They decided to become Knights in order to do more than just go to church each Sunday. They decided to make the Knights of Columbus a part of their religious experience and their family's quality of life. It is an honor to serve God with sacrifices through the Knights. Like many others before us since 1882, young and old will reap rewards in this life as well as the next. Remember, coming to a meeting for a couple of hours, one or two nights a month should not be so burdensome that your Brother Knights must carry on without you. If you are to be a Knight and be true to your pledges, you are expected to take up the cross of Jesus and the responsibility of working in unity with your council Brothers. We only ask you to offer those much needed talents of yours for the good of the church and the benefit of our nation Being a Knight is a wonderful experience. Let me assure you that you have made the proper choice and your family is now and always will be proud of you. Enjoy the fellowship and the partnership. Get involved and let us pray that God, through the Holy Spirit, will bless all the Knights and their families during this fraternal year. Vivat Jesus Gerard J. Magner
Lecture George Menni PGK-FDD The word Faithful by one of the definitions according to Merriam Webster is fidelity to one's promise. Every Knights of Columbus member takes upon himself an obligation during our three degrees. Part of that obligation is to be faithful to his council. Each mouth each of us receives a council newsletter of council meetings and up coming events. It would be nice if all of our brother Knights attended our council meetings and with their ladies and friends attended our other council events. Understandably, everyone cannot attend every meeting or council event. We all have health problems on occasion so that attendance at all council meetings or events is not possible. But for those of us who do attend our meetings and it seems that it's always the same few. It certainly makes me wonder what has happened to everyone else. Where has everyone gone? Is there really that little interest in Santa Maria Council? Our council is now on its 110th year. Does it end here??? Do you remember when you took your degrees? Do you remember when you went through the chairs? Do you remember how many members supported you and your council events. Do you remember how hard you worked to make our council the very best? Well guess what? We still miss you and are now asking for your support to once again return to faithfulness to your council that you have passed on to us. So how about renewing your acquaintances at Santa Maria Council 105? So how about filling the seats of your council once again showing the support to which it deserves? So please cut loose from TV on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday and return to your council " WELCOME HOME"
Prayer for the Cabonization of Fr. Michael McGivney August 12,
1852 - Though the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Our Father-Hail Mary- Glory be to the Father:
