Southern Delivery System

I have to begin by saying that this is a subject I do not have a lot of personal knowledge about regarding the ins and outs of the entire process beginning with the idea, to the environmental impact, to the cost analysis, to the negotiations.

As a community, we will definitely need more water in the not so distant future than our present aquifers can provide. I am for the SDS and I believe that the process, to date, has been handled effectively, efficiently and honorably.

UPDATE!

I have taken the tour offered by our utilities water department and I must say that it was very informative. I learned alot about those items mentioned in the first paragraph. More than ever I feel that the process was handled well.

I am concerned a bit about the rate increases that are coming, but we will still have rates in line with average rates and we will have an uninteruptable supply of water well into the future. I would like to see one thing from utilities that I do not believe we have seen yet. I would like a guarantee that when rates hit the projected high in a few years we would receive a guarantee that they would be unraised for a period of no less than ten years. I would also like to see some conversation about lowering rates when all debts associated with the construction of the SDS are paid back.
