Ballroom Dance Etiqutte
When asking someone to dance (man asking lady or reverse) simply say "May I have this dance?". Witty or joking requests just don't cut it here. This is Ballroom Dancing, not Barroom Dancing.

Walk your partner back to his/her seat after the conclusion of the dance.

Slow dancers please stay towards the center of the dance floor. This would include beginners and couples that are swing dancing while others are doing foxtrot.

Applause is nice at the end of the dance; with or without a band.

Dress appropriately. Blue-jeans are never acceptable.
Informal: Casual attire is acceptable, but blue jeans are discouraged
Semiformal: Coat and Tie for men, dress of any length for women
Formal: Tuxedo or 3-piece suit for men and a long dress preferred for women.

Introduce yourself to your partner right away.

At the end of a dance, one should thank his/her partner for the dance.

Dance at your partner's level if lower than yours. Never muscle an beginner through that new gold level step you just learned. This will always be intimidating for them and it will probably look bad.

In a social dance setting it's rude to offer unsolicited dance instruction.
