What am I interested
in?
What do I do?
I'm retired from 25 years of teaching people how to
use computers, at Washtenaw Community College, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Though retired, I still teach there part-time. You can link to my instructional home page to learn more.
Now that I've retired, I can do more of the sorts of things I think are truly important. So...
- I teach linguistics (specifically, phonetics) with the Summer Institute of Linguistics at the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The course I teach is part of a diplomado (certificate) program specifically designed for speakers of indigenous languages of Mexico. There are about 250 such languages still spoken, often by people whose second language is Spanish, though some speak only their indigenous language. The purpose of the course is to empower indigenous people to understand their own language well enough to write materials in it, including the Bible and teaching materials for both children and adults.
- I have been appointed a member of the Ypsilanti Township Planning Commission, where I hope to make a difference in the way my community grows for the 21st century.
- I advocate sustainable, transit-oriented development in my community. In this role, I am founding a grass-roots citizen organization called Wake up Washtenaw, to encourage intelligent, 21st-century development in Washtenaw County, Michigan, where I live.
- It had to be
here...the Vita
