The Bow Roof Shed

The "shed" is actually a green house. My wife likes to grow plants, flowers and veggies and I like to build boats. So I've decided to build a big 'ol green house that we can both make good use of.

After building my 12 foot Mini Cup sail boat in the garage for a year, I really don't want to work in there any more. It is too small of an area to build the larger boat I dream of. I know of two other boat builders who have built this green house and are using it as a "Boat House" to work in. I have done the same, only I've made it large enough for my wife to also be able to do some gardening. The finished floor size is 16' X 28'.

The first thing I had to do was to level out the yard where the green house was to be built. I built a retaining wall and filled it full of fill dirt. I needed two loads of dirt. Then I built the foundation frame, and filled that with gravel. Then I was able to begin framing the green house.

I have not gotten very far yet, but it's a start!

I had the second load of fill dirt delivered and spent a few days getting it spread out.

Then I built the 16' X 28' foundation for the green house out of 2 X 6 pressure treated planks that are staked to the ground. I then sank some 4" X 5" posts in concrete and lag bolted them to the foundation frame. The stakes just would not go into the hard ground far enough for me to be compfortable with the whole structure not getting blown away in a storm.

I surrounded the back half of the green house with a layer of mulch so I won't have to worry with cutting grass and weeds back there. Next, I leveled the ground inside the foundation some more, put down some 6 mil plastic vapor barrier, and then filled the box with gravel.
