Engine Upgrades

Battery Upgrade

NOTE:  The Redtop battery gave up the ghost after years of great service. A new battery had to be installed at 106,888 miles. (9/23/2009)

Perhaps a minor upgrade to my engine compartment, the OptimaŽ Red Top Battery (RED25) was installed to help with the audio equipment.  It has proven to be a great upgrade for the engine too.  Starts are much easier and it seems to catch faster.  The battery is one of the best made on the market.  Highly recommended.
Deyeme Racing Motor Mounts

NOTE:  The Deyeme Racing Motor Mounts were sold and will not come with the car. The stock mounts were reinstalled at 108,784 miles. (9/23/2009)

The Eclipse has a lot of torque. So the motor tends to introduce a lot of bounce and then wheel hop if the driver is too aggressive. To fight this, a firm set of motor mounts from Deyeme Racing is just the ticket.

Maintenance

As 60,000 miles came and went, I'd started collecting parts for the scheduled maintenance:

  • Magnecor Kv85 8.5mm Competition Ignition Wires - Were not installed due to lower ratings than stock replacement wires
  • NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
  • Valve cover gasket
  • Alternator serpentine belt
  • Power steering serpentine belt
  • Thermostat
  • Antifreeze/Coolant

Although I was going to wait for the Spring to replace the timing belt, I started getting noise from under the timing belt shroud.  Rather than letting it go and risking the timing belt failing, I brought it into the shop.  I had the timing belt, timing belt adjuster, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, water pump, thermostat, and serpentine belts replaced at 64400 miles.

This Spring, I'll install the spark plugs, ignition wires, valve cover gaskets, distributor Cap, and distributor rotor.  I might just go for the rest of the motor mounts and Quaife ATB LSD too.
