Stargrunt II
For those of you who have never played Ground Zero Games’ skirmish rules – a.k.a. Stargrunt II – you’re really missing out.  SGII is a “gritty” sci-fi game, unlike the better known but infinitely more shallow Warhammer 40,000;  rather than the B-grade-space-opera-action-film feel of 40K, SGII’s core mechanics emphasize real-world tactics to survive and win.

Stargrunt II by Ground Zero Games

As a veteran, I find this to be far preferable to the cartoon-antics of most 40K battles.  SGII is a game that should feel familiar to anyone who has ever actually served in the infantry or studied modern small-unit tactics.  Heroics are not rewarded as much as keeping a cool head, scanning your fields of fire, and making good use of available terrain.

I'll soon be adding some galleries of my 15mm Stargrunt forces, including Kra'vak and New Israeli infantry, vehicles from DLD Productions and Old Crow Models, and walkers converted from WizKids' Mechwarrior figures.

Need a sense of the difference between Stargrunt and 40K?  Here's a neat little bit of fanfic you ought to enjoy!
