With the exception of a few snapshots which were scanned, all the photos on my website were taken with my digital camera, an older Kodak DC 220. I use the camera in its elementary "point and shoot" mode. It is capable of tight closeups. I use the smallest picture setting, 640 by 480 pixels, and the most compression. These photos average around 60KB.
I import the photos directly into my Windows based PC using the memory card reader on the front of the machine. Microsoft Photo Editor is then used to manipulate the image, but almost any photo editor would work. First, I crop or resize the photo to reduce it in size. If necessary, I adjust the photo for brightness. And finally, the resolution is reduced to 72 pixels per inch which is optimum for website display. I save the photo in JPEG format and with these adjustments photos average less than 20KB.
