1979 MG Midget

Turning 30 this year (2001) was actually a pretty good thing because I got a wonderful gift from my wife - the project you see below! Though we ended up with more to do on the project that we had at first tought, it's been a fun project so far. Here are some photos of what we've been doing...

01 Here's the Midget, loaded up on a trailer and ready for her trip home. This was early February 2001, and Old Man winter had dumped a load of snow the previous evening.
02 After inflating the tires which went flat on the hour drive home, we finally get the car in the driveway.
03 Looks a heck of a lot better after a good wash! The hood (bonnet) is cocked because the hood release cable was seized, and so it was not fully latched. We also took tis opportunity to remove what was left of the torn-up convertibe top.
04 A view from the front.
05 The proud new owner!
06 A look at the interior. It turned out the dash itself is in pretty good shape, no cracks.

Another look at the interior from the side. You can see all the rust. When we bought the car, the interior had a pile of leaves inside, as well as some snow from the previous nights storm. Though the seat vinyl was in acceptable shape, the lower seat frames were rusted, especially the drivers seat which was so weak it broke.
08 The interior from the rear. There's a decent sized rust hole through the passengers side footwell. I later found out that the top of the footwell, where the inner wheel arch is connected, was also rusted through.
09 Engine bay from the front. This car turned out to have California emissions equipment on it.
