The New Shell Arrives

The seller told me that it "needed new floors." (!) Further inspection into the Midget found so much rust that it wasn't economically feasable for me to repair it. With the help of the Spridgets Mailing list, I located a shell from a 1976 Midget to use as a replacement (Thanks, David!). While not perfect, it was significanly better than the '79, and had the added benefit of being almost completely stripped down. This saved me the rouble of stripping down the '79, storing everything, probably losing parts, and definitely forgetting where everything goes upon reasssembly!

So, on Memorial Day weekend, myself, my wife, and my good friend Tim drove from New Jersey down to Tennesse to pick up the chassis. The photos below show us unloading it...

11 Tim and I starting to bring the shell out of the back of the truck. In Tennessee, we lifted it in without using the ramp. Here, we're rollong it out on some casters that I fitted. I put one set mounted to the rool-bar mounting points, and one set on the forward rear spring mounting points.

At this point I think we're a little stuck!

12 The next door neighbor comes to the rescue.
13 Easing it down the ramp...
14 ...and on to the lawn. Now the fun begins!

I ended up with an extra rear bumper, extra gas tank, door and boot hinges, a full wiring loom, and a dashboard. This one has a few cracks in the top, which is a shame since I'm panning to convert the '79 to a manual choke, and this dash has the mounting hole. What I'll do is use this one as a template for drilling the '79 dash.
