Chapter 4 - Ratios, Proportions & Rational Equations

Ratios and Proportions explore the concepts of scale models, the basic understanding of random questionaires, and sample spaces to model data in the realy world. Most of the problems deal with word problems, A majority of students have a difficult time understanding exactly how to set up a problem and what numbers and information is important.

Solve proportions that include algebraic 1st degree expression
Solve real world problems involving rates of change
Setup ratios and proportions equations from real world problems.
Conversions of units. For example, converting feet to inches, miles per minure to miles per hours, and so forth.
Inverse Operations of Multiplication and Division

Require Skills

Students must know how to reverse addtion with subtraction; multiplication with division, and visa versa.
Students must know how to take larger units and convert them to smaller units.
Students must know how to add intergers. Students must know how to distribute.
Student must know the basic steps to solve one step equations.
