In Chapter 7 we only cover sections 7.1 Solving Linear Systems by Graphing and 7.3 Solving Linear Systems by Combinations. One method will verify the other.
Solvng Linear Systems by Graphing involves graphing two linear equations, finding the point where the two lines intersect, identifying the (x, y) ordered pair of the point of intersection, and verifying that the order pair is a solution to the linear system.
Solving Linear Systems by Combinations deals with changing the coefficients (numbers in front of variables) in order to eliminate a variable from an equation so as to solve the one variable that remains. The ordered pair found by the graping method (7.1) and the ordered pair found by combination method (7.3) should be identical. If not mistakes have been made in completing the problem.

How to evaluate a solution set to be sure it actually solves the system of linear equations. |
