Chapter 10 Polynomials and Factoring

In Chapter 10 we leave linear equations and start our study of non-linear equations. We revisit multiplying monomials and binomials (10.2) which we briefly touched upon when the Distributive Property was first introduced in term 1.

We also cover special products (10.3) such as (ax+b)(ax+b) where a and b do not equal zero. This section(10.3) is vital to understand how to break polynomials into thier root factors, which in turn allows us to find solutions. If a student understands the prinicple of polynomial multiplication, factoring and solving polynomials is much easier to undestand.

Section 10.4 and 10.5 are very closely related. In section 10.4 we develop the understanding of the zero property of factors and graphically understand what is meant to solve a polynomial equation. Section 10.5 teaches how a quadratic equation is broken in to its two root factors, and from the two root factors we find the solutions to quadratic equations.

Downloading MS Word Worksheets

The Microsoft Word Worksheets are downloadable and printable. Please save them to your computer's hard drive, then print them. Some documents may be created with Office 2007 or Office 2003. Word 2003 documents have the "doc" extension. Word Documents 2007 have the "docx" extension. If you do not have Office 2007 you will need to download the Microsoft 2007 Compatablility Pack. See the link to the left.
