CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Number operations, linear relationships, solving multi step problems, square roots, linear inequalities, distance and midpoint formulas, proportions, using appropriate units of measurement, data analysis and lines of best fit, probability.

MATERIALS NEEDED

Three ring binder, notebook paper, pencils, no pens, colored pencils, protractor, 6 inch straight edge, safety compass, scientific calculator (provided). A version of the TI-73 is downloadable from the internet.

ABSENT WORK

Absent work is assignments given or handed in on days a student is not in school. If you are present on a day that an assignment was given, but absent on the day it was handed in, the assignment is due the next day you are in class. If you get behind because of absences you and I can set a reasonable date for missed work to be completed. That will be the new due date for your assignments to be turned in.  Most assignments are found   on my website.

LATE WORK

Late work is any assignment that is not handed in on the due date even though you were in class the day it was assigned and the day it was due. Missed work is not accepted at all.  If a student has “goofed off” in class and desires to “turn things around” I will be willing to meet with the student and the parent to make a contract between the three of us to allow the student to improve their situation in class.

CLASSROOM WORK

Notes (5%) – Please take notes during class room discussion and keep in a notebook for reference.  Notes are very helpful on text and worksheet assignments. Notes cannot be used on quizzes, but can be used on tests.

Text Assignments (10%) - Text assignments are problem sets from different areas of the book. Text assignments will be graded in class and turned in for points. Some days you will correct your own on other days you will trade with a class mate. If you want your text assignments back come to room 218 after school to pick them up.

Worksheets (30%) – Worksheets are handouts that I design with problems that deal more deeply with the Math Standards on State Core Curriculum. Worksheets are checked in class. Each page is worth 25 points.   Zero credit is given for correct answers without the justifying work. Worksheets are downloaded on the internet Websites above.

Quizzes (55%) – Quizzes are given every two Sections of a chapter.  They usually have 4 to 6 problems and are worth 50 points.  You cannot use notes to help on a quiz. You are allowed one retake on a quiz.

Extra Credit – Extra Credit is earned by have no missing assignments. Grade printouts are given to students to take home and have parents look at them and sign them. The student brings them back to me signed by a parent with an active phone number and points are earned as follows:
