WHERE:     From Portland take I-84 to the Bridge of the Gods ($1 fee to cross bridge into Washington).  After crossing into Washington take a left on Highway 14 and look for the Bonneville trailhead roughly two miles on the left. Another trailhead will get you closer to the mountain and skip a few miles of zero net gain traveling:  This link is off of the Portland hikers web site.  http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/wiki/Aldrich_Butte_Trailhead

TRAIL:  The Trail goes up a few hundred feet over .6 miles before meeting the PCT.  The next 5 miles gains very little elevation but has a lot of minor ups and downs.  You will pass a couple of beautiful lakes, some less beautiful clear cuts and several creeks before meeting the Aldrich Butte cutoff trail and then steepening.  After another quarter mile you recross the Aldrich Butte cutoff trail and soon meet the very steep Heartbreak Ridge trail which goes up well over 1,000 feet in .7 miles.  It is steep and difficult (you can also continue going up the PCT for .4 miles before reaching an "easier" trail to the top of Table Mountain).  The first quarter of a mile takes you up Heartbreak Ridge to the first close up view of the top with a waterfall seemingly coming out of the rock.

From here you meander up and down on the trail as you skirt a steep ledge eventually reaching a talus slope.  Just climb up the rocks until you reach an obvious trail to the left near the top of the rocks.  In late April of 2009 the trial was snow covered from here on up so I just climbed up the snow with hands and feet.  It is a good idea to kick in hard in the shady areas to prevent what good be a long steep slide down the mountain.  In the areas where the sun is hitting and it is more slushy I would make sure you have three points of contact at all times to prevent sliding with the slush.  Soon you reach a nice flat table were you can walk to the various sides to get great views in all directions.
