IRON MOUNTAIN

WHERE:     From Portland take I 5 south to Albany where you follow highway 20 east.  The trailhead is a little over 60 miles away on the north side of the road.

THE TRAIL:    If you want an easy hike with great alpine views than this is it. Less than two miles will get you to Iron Mountain lookout.  Not much to say about the hike except the view is worth it and if you are passing through you will find that there probably is not a more rewarding 1.5 mile hike in Oregon.  Elevation starts at 4300 feet and only goes up another 1000.  When I went in early spring I watched it snow below me while I stayed dry.  It was a euphoric experience that was only allowed by a unique weather system and wind direction that day.
