PRAYER GUIDE

When to pray?

Of course, you can pray anytime.
but here is a good guide:

1. Whatever time you normally get up
in the morning... get up at least an hour earlier.
If you think that you need the extra hour of sleep,
try going to bed an hour earlier than usual.
Your body will, in short time, adjust to the change.
Make this your major time to pray,
but certainly not your only time for daily prayer.
You will find that your day is more peaceful,
and that you are more refreshed.

2. Pray shortly before going to bed...
this is a good time to let the Lord know that you are trusting Him
to watch over you and your family during your sleeping hours
and to thank Him for His daily blessings.

3. Say short prayers and communicate
with the Father throughout your day.
You may want to ask Him for guidance as situations arise
and you may simply want to thank Him
as you recognize blessings He is bestowing upon you.
He loves to hear from you during these impromtu moments
as well as during your "officially" set aside time for prayer.

Where to pray?

Also, you can pray anywhere.
but try...

Finding a place where you can be alone,
where it is quiet,
and where there are little to no distractions.
Jesus liked to pray in a garden or on a mountain top.
A natural setting is a great place to pray
but if one is not readily accessible or is currently inappropriate,
a room empty of others with a closed door will work just fine.

How to pray?

The ABC's of praying:

A - Attitude

1. Have a contrite heart, be humble, and sincere.

2. Have a childlike faith... full of innocence,
trustfulness, and candor....
not prideful, not wordy.

3. Enter prayer with a concern for spiritual growth
and needs... not worldy wants
and selfish desires
for yourself and for others.

4. Be content and fully expect that whatever
answer He provides is for His will,
His glory, and ultimately for
your own and others' spiritual benefit
whether you understand it or not.

B - Basics

When you pray include the following...

1. Acknowledge God's sovereignty
2. Praise and glorify Him.
3. Let Him know that you love Him
and trust Him.
4. And thank Him profusely.
5. Ask that you be molded by
Him day by day and
that you become
more like Jesus
and closer to Him.

C - Continue

Pray without ceasing... show perseverance in your prayers.
Have and keep a daily prayer list.
Be specific in your prayers.

Include such things as:
concerns for your spiritual welfare and the spiritual welfare of others
(mention others by name... it helps you to focus)

pray for current event concerns
your daily schedule
and ongoing local, national and international concerns

pray for our country and its leaders at all levels of government
pray for guidance, direction, self-control, discernment, and understanding
pray that every day you become a bit more like Jesus and closer to the Father
pray that you keep ever mindful of Him
pray that He show you His will for your life
pray that He strengthens you in all aspects of your daily walk.

Don't forget

Read the Bible,
meditate upon the Word,
listen to God as He speaks to your heart,
and by all means...
follow what He directs your heart to do,
and do it in a timely manner... don't put off.

Also don't forget the power of "group" prayer
when two or more are gathered together.
