The LaBarge Family Camping Adventures

Lake George Escape
Lake George, NY

Located on the Schroon River, just outside Warrensburg, NY, the Lake George Escape Camping resort is a large, full-service camping resort.  It's just short, 5-mile drive to Lake George Village and is a convenient base for exploring the many attractions in the area.

Favorite Sites

Here are some that looked good to us:

  • P51, P52, P53 (Water/Electric/Cable)
Note:  Unless you have a bathroom in your pop-up, be sure to study the campground's site map carefully.  Many sites are a considerable distance from the nearest restroom.

Campsites:    There are probably over 1,000 sites in this very large campground.  We chose one of the sites with water and 20-amp electric hookups.  Our site (#726) was small and not very level.  We also had to content with several large tree roots running through the site.  It was however, well-shaded by serveral large pine trees and overlooked a small pond.  Our site was just a short walk to the nearest restroom.  The hookups in this area of the campground are each shared by two adjacent sites (see picture below).  From the looks of things, it appeared that the sites might actually be sharing a 20-amp circuit.  Almost all of the water/20-amp sites had the hookups located near the road, rather than further back where the trailer is situated.  In our case, we had to use an extension cord to reach the electrical outlet.  Our water hose just wasn't long enough to reach.  We don't normally use the water hookups anyway, so that wasn't a big problem.  If you're staying in one of these sites, be sure to bring a hefty extension cord and a long water hose.  The other RV-oriented sites each had their own hookups, which were located where you would expect them to be.   The sites in the "pop-up" area were all fairly close to each other, often only having some strategically-located boulders to delineate them.

I've heard that this campground gets very crowded during the peak seasons.  Fortunately, we visited here on weekdays in between Labor Day and the Fall foliage season.  So, we pretty much had the campground to ourselves.  When making a reservation here, be sure to study the site map closely.  Many of the sites (particularly some of the "dry sites") are located a considerable distance from the nearest restroom.  The campground is located close to I-87, so we could hear road noises from our campsite.

Basic Facilities:  The restrooms and showers near our site were clean, modern and well-maintained.  The showers were separate from the restroom, which is something we haven't encountered before.  There is a well-stocked campstore and a laundromat.  WiFi wireless Internet is available throughout the campground.  There is a restaurant in the campground, however, it was closed during our stay.  On all of our encounters with the campground staff, we found them to be friendly, helpful and very professional.

You can probably find anything else you need in nearby Warrensburg, where you can find gas stations, restaurants and a supermarket.

Campground Features:  The campground features heated swimming pools, boat rentals, river swimming, fishing and tons of other things to do.  Check the campground's website for more information.

Nearby Attractions:  A full list of things to do in this area would take up too much space.  Here are a few attractions in the area we took advantage of:

Be sure to check at the camp office for discounts on local attractions.

Some Recommendations:

General Impressions:   Normally, this is the type of campground we tend to avoid, due to the crowds and close-spaced sites.  However, since the campground was nearly empty during our stay, we had a nice time there.  We would definitely stay here again but we would choose the timing and the site very carefully.
