Skillet Biscuits
|
You don't need an oven to make great biscuits. You just need a campstove, a cast iron skillet and some patience.
Ingredients:
Procedure:
Over low heat, add the butter and oil to a heavy cast-iron skillet.
Combine the baking mix and the milk.
When the butter has melted and starts to bubble, spoon the batter into
the skillet to make 4 generously-sized biscuits (or 5 or 6 smaller
ones). Cover the skillet with a lid (or a piece of aluminum foil)
and cook for about 10 minutes. Keep a close watch on them, so
they don't burn. Flip the biscuits and cook for another 5 minutes
or until they are cooked through. You can insert a toothpick to
check for doneness. If the toothpick comes out clean, they are
done.
Serve with honey or butter or smother them with some sausage gravy for breakfast.
